landLine magazine arrived today and there were two important issues that can afect us in the expediting industry. The first one, Is your carrier double dipping? By this they mean your carrier may have broker authority and carrier authority so if you are running on a percentage basis you maybe have your carrier getting two fees of the freight instead of one. Example if your carrier gives 75% of the carriers charge, a $1000 trip would give you $750. But if your carrier has a division that brokered the load for a $100 charge then turned it over to the carrier authority, now the carrier now ofers you 75% of $900.Something to think about and ask questions.

Another important issue is the prevelance of bladder cancer in truckers. You folks that smoke and hang around T/stops with the fumes everywhere are at a very high risk of developing bladder cancer. Many truckers tend to hold their urine for long periods and that can contribute to the cancer as you are giving the caricingens from tobacco and petroleum fume by products a longer opportunity to infiltrate your system.

Rich: The way I read it on here, don't make any difference, as long as they are getting precisely what they compute as "profitable" for them. Good for them. I'm sure there are one or, more trucking companys double dipping. The American way is that way, and everyone needs to prosper. But, if you are the type that dwells on whom YOU took for that dollar,or, dwell on that dollar you left on the table, ya better jes go to the beach an go fish'in an not worry bout trukk'in. All ya gotta do is, work smart, work hard, an save where ya can. Stick what ya can in yer pocket and enjoy. Funny, I was reading the other day, Doc Rushing was livid about being on the recieving en of what he learned his students a ways back. Now that's capitalism almost in it's grandest form. Teacher gett'in taught.

Yep... doesn't matter. We should all just bend over and take it like good peons, cause one day they might be bending over for us. Don't question authority. Don't question dishonest practices. Whatever you do, DON'T ROCK THE BOAT! And be grateful for any scrap that might fall off the table from those who control the money; cause in fact, they control you.

The only ones I could see agreeing with you, Colonel, are those who have someone bending over for them.

Well you are right, the carrier controls you. They control the runs you are given, the amount of runs and the money you are paid. They are the authority and you will do what they tell you, take what they will pay you and be happy.

one thing i would like to see stop is as soon as you are offered the load, etc, that is the last time a dispatcher is able to see how much you have made for the run or the week
sometimes you are running good and they think well he needs to sit for awhile and than they let some one else make sometime money and they just control your money to much
