Landing gear?

I have a freightliner m2 with air suspension, what kind of landing gear are you using, I want to get some installed, and have seen some that are just a plain pain in the butt to use, looking for ideas here, and do you use yours all the time, or just when you know it's gonna be a heavy load going on the truck.

thanks

You don't have them?

I would get them installed as soon as you can.

They are essential to the safety of the forklift driver and to the truck.

There are a few manufacturers of them, basically they are all the same. BUT I would look at the truck junk yards for used because the only thing that really goes wrong with them is they get worn out or they bind when someone mistreats them.

Cost?

The set should be about $300 used and labor should be another $250 to $350.

I am one of the very few fortunate drivers hoe had to replace one !
my Hino expediter came with a top of the line 'Holland' landing gear.
http://ww1.safholland.us/sites/usa/en-us/products/landinggear/pages/default.aspx
the turning of the crank shaft became too hard to twists, we tried to salvage it by opening it out, cleaning all the old grease and so forth, but by the ends nothing worked. am still puzzled why it stopped working. never heard of one breaking .
replaced it @ truck source in Romulus for 380$ installed.
once in Vegas's Speedco i met a WG yacht that had a cool connections bar welded from the button of the landing gear to the truck frame,so the legs cannot be bended. i think it was there because the truck was a fleet truck, and well, maybe some drivers where too lazy to choke the wheels ?

Moose,
What happens is the 'screw' inside the landing gear post itself a heavy load or misplaced truck tears up the threads so when the screw is turned and the legs come down, it binds up making it difficult to move when it hits the bad section on the screw.

Holland and other manufacturers have the screw listed as a replacement part but for what you paid, I would have just replaced the unit too.

If you are near S.E. Michigan give this guy a call. I grew up with him and his entire family. Very honest man. He will likely have landing gear etc.
