5 miles from the one rockslide, another one happened. This one was smaller, but still put 50 to 60 dump truck loads on the road. Look for it to open late March.

Take exit 443. Hwy 70. Into hot springs NC brings u out @ exit 19 on I 26 actually a few miles shorter than if u went right through on 40 nice scenic drive

I did this last week..it maybe a few miles shorter..but it is at least 20-30 minutes longer depending if ya get stuck behind a slow poke and the twists and turns are real good for brake wear......ALSO there is a 10T bridge...It is scenic to say the least...:D

That is the way I go,during the daylight.Sucks at night, but it is kinda a romantic drive during the day...

I-81 to I-26 is the sure bet, especially with the weather around that area lately. It's a little longer in mileage but the drive time isn't that bad - it's less curvy and you don't get stuck behind the school buses and hay wagons.

I actually got off at 25, ran that over to 58 then on 81 for a short distance and got 26 down.....wasn't bad and it was quicker then 81 to 26, i have run that before....BUT the hills are a bit more.....probably where i torched the tranny!!!! :D:rolleyes:

Are any of you getting paid for the extra miles it takes to make the detour? I say it is around 70 miles longer to Asheville. Some say it is only around 50. But either way, it is extra miles and I never get paid for them. Just curious as to what is the norm with the rest of you?

BTW, I heard talk on the CB one night that the old road (I40) that had the landslide, is now thought to never have been geologically the place to put a road. There has been discussions about building it through a different mountain. But who believes anything you hear on the CB?

Yeah we get paid for it....if coming from the north down 75 they route us cross country exit 29 in KY unto US25 it cuts the corner and to 81 to 26....a pretty rough way to go especially at night and in the winter...

Did they ever finish up the construction on 25 or are they still widening it. I stopped taking 25 cause of the slow pokes and all the construction.
