Do you have a favorite Kindle book to recommend? Share it here.

I am having a great time reading Aesop's Fables on my Kindle.
It is one of thousands of FREE e-books that can be downloaded from the Kindle store. It is one of many books we now carry in the truck that take up no more space combined than the Kindle itself.

Download free books by going to the Amazon.com Kindle store and scrolling down the the Free eBooks Collection link.

I would never have purchased this book for a price or taken a printed version into the truck. But with no financial or space price to be paid, it was an easy decision to download this classic (and many others).

I'm glad I did. This delightful collection of entertaining short stories is the source of many of the slogans we use today like, "slow and steady wins the race" and "Heaven helps those who helps themselves." I feel a little smarter each time I come across a popular slogan because I now know and appreicate its source.

Aesop's Fables is an ideal book to turn to if you have just a few minutes of time to kill or a couple hours to relax. Either way, the Kindle makes it easy to start and stop the book by marking the spot where you left off. The next time you open the book you will be instantly taken to the page you left.

I have to laugh, you all sound like you discovered first time slice bread or something.

You guys never heard of the Project Gutenberg?

Check it out.

ALSO there are a few other "Gutenberg" sites, Australia, Canada and others PLUS the EU has a good site, European Commission Cultural site that has links to a lot (I mean a lot) of free book sources. Oh and let's not forget Google Books.

Sure I've heard of it. I just answered with some of the stuff I like to always have in my Kindle.

I think Phil's and your post are great but it just hit me as funny. I keep seeing this everywhere and no one seems to think there are other sources that could provide a large variety of media outside of Amazon for all readers.

By the way, HG wells and Jules Verne is also a great collection. I have Karl May and other western collections on what I have in the testing unit.

There are a number of other sources as well as several alternate platforms. For breadth and depth as well as "so easy a caveman could do it" operation I don't think any of them equal the Kindle. There are also numerous other excellent "libraries" besides Conan Doyle and Twain. I chose those two for quantity of good material that would give at least a few dozen hours of enjoyable reading. They also have at least 3 free blogs. I enjoy the automotive one. It has a good serious going now about "what if" AMC could have had today's tech in the 70's.
