Keeping fit and driving

With the cold and snow I have found it a challenge to keep with my workout regiment as I have done so in the warmer months. I thought of getting some snow shoes but that is just part of the challenge, then I need full on powder pants and parka. So I have taken another approach.
I started looking into fitness centers. I thought I would share my experience with those out there that want to take care of their body. Keeping fit not only keeps the ticker and blood pressure, cholesterol in check but energy level is brought up a couple notches which help combat fatigue brought on by the driving.
Fitness Center’s do cost money, there are reasonable memberships. Gold’s Gym is so far the best price and more locations than the other chain fitness centers. The privately owned fitness centers allow a onetime user fee, usually $8-$10. This includes shower!!! Now one thing I am doing, that cost nothing but a little time is go in and get with a membership sales person and let him /her know you are checking the place out, listen to their prices, go for a tour and ta-da, free workout and shower.

BE SAFE

I see more and more small gyms around. Many can be found in strip malls that are somewhat truck friendly. Snap Fitness and Anytime Fitness are two that come to mind. There is Curves which is for women only.

I don't know if these are national chains, but I do see them in the midwest. Even in small towns. These appear to be no frills type places. But if you want a workout and shower and can do without a pool etc. might be something to look into.

yeah, I end up at the smaller ones though the Golds that I have been to have big parking lots and don't mind if I hang out over night. There are a lot of them also, and then if you used the gym on an average of once a week it would be the same as what you would pay at the family owned gyms, walk-in paying $10 a pop, where as the membership would allow you to just go in and shower or sauna or whatever, something to consider. I have not convinced myself to get a membership yet, just because when it warms up I am back out on my hiking ventures, I carry a couple set of dumb bells for keeping the arms toned, but I really enjoy walking. I might get some snow shoes. Some days it is so beautiful with a fresh blanket of snow, I would love going on some photo shoots. But it seems the days where the cold tolerable are far and few between.
