Most likely you would need magnetic or other form of covers to conceal the leased carrier name and logos. I've heard of a couple that let you run your own stuff but you can't let any of their markings show when you do and you are counted out of service for the duration of the run. I suspect it's allowed and tolerated but not encouraged or appreciated.
I do not have my own authority. When I find a load on my own I want to run I call the company and they set it up. They get a small cut our of it but I don't have to have any additional insurance on my own etc. so it's worth their cut to not have the hassle of covering and uncovering markings, paying cargo insurance premiums etc. to me.
