THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS BEEN OF HELP! I bought a used truck with low miles with a great maint. record. I've posted in past about new vec.'s but think I've found an excellent newbee vec. And I got a good feel for good dealers for future truck purchuses . OK I bought a 2001 pete 330 with 195000 has class 8 frame 300hp cummins .I drove it back from ca. to mi. got about 11 mpg ,truck seems real tight ,handles like a dream.I should be starting with fed ex by months end . One problem is weight issue , for 3 years it has been with fed ex as D unit ,problem is 10 front ,21 rears and weights about 19000 empty . Short of "D" unit but has history of service as "D" . I hope this doesn't bite me in the butt. I've already priced a pusher and would still come in at an excellent price for unit. I guess my question is how much difference there really is between "D" and "c" ,also must add truck is set up for white gloves dry, lift gate dollies pallet jack etc. I GUESS WISH ME LUCK AND ANY ADVISE WOULD BE WELCOM. THANKS RANDY (BIG DOG)

BigDog,

Congrats on the new ride! For what it is worth...the first truck we drove was the same way and we were with Roberts/FedexCC. What we found is if we got a load closer to 13,000lbs we loaded it more to the front of the box (toward the steers) and it seemed to put more weight on the steers. So, it balanced out...we would go and weigh just to be sure. In addition, we got very few loads that were even close to 13,000lbs. I realize that FedexCC requires 13,000lbs for your truck to be considered a D however, I personally know of several trucks now that operate as a D unit (for several carriers) and they can't even carry 13,000lbs legally so maybe one of those drivers will chime in. I may be way wrong here too, but I think that FedexCC still puts the piece counts and weights on their load offers therefore, you could feasibly screen out any potential weight problems. In addition, I recall that many of our loads while we driving as D unit were C loads.

Thanks McBride for the vote of cnfedense I to know of a few, some with fed ex . I am not ruling out a pusher but would hate to be discounted on loads or over looked for those over 5000lbs .As I sayed this truck has been in ther system as a d unit for 3 years. Thanks Randy

If you just go with the single axle, you may be able to get it recertified through a dealer for a higher weight. Each state is different on this. i don't know about MI but you can do it in IN. Alot will depend on how the truck is speced and what axles are on there now. KW and Pete use that lighter class for non-cdl drivers but the truck is rated higher from the factory. they do the same thing on dump trucks as well.
