There were LOTS of 'deadliest beaches' in WWII. The landing on Normandy was NOT the ONLY D-Day in Europe and we must never forget the multiple D-Days that took place in the Pacific Theater. Tarawa is just ONE example. Don't forget the landing at Anzio. I had two cousins on Anzio. One killed, one took 3 from a machine gun. He was never again in good health. June 6th was only one of many "D-Days". All were important, all just as dangerous and deadly.

My father (who is now passed) birthday is June 6th. On June 6th 1944 he was dropping bombs on Germany from his B-17. He used to talk about it being his best birthday ever, hitting a ball bearing factory in Schwenfurt (can't spell it) Germany. It was part of a diversion for the D-day invasion.
It was also the longest flown combat mission of the war up till that date. They only lost 9 bombers that day. Only!!

On June 6th, 1944, my Dad was deep in the jungles of Burma. They were cut off from the main supply lines and were being supplied by mule trains. His unit was directing air strikes onto enemy landing strips. They had to 'eyeball' the landing strips, that is CLOSE, and call the strikes in. Often miles behind enemy lines.

I'm sure, those of us oldsters whose parents were in WW2 have heard numerous stories.
All I can say is they were truely The Greatest Generation. IMHO
