Sittin here waitin' for some action so I was hoping the experienced and knowledgeable could comment on 2 questions (without the help of the Ouija Board) 1) Yeah, I know it's wwaayyyy early in the month, but the month is July ....... which I've heard is typically slow...or was that June?. 2) Also, dispatch mumbled something about the Big 3 are "shut down" for a few days - any truth to that ?

Yes, certain plants do close down for a week or two, i'd be wary of that being the only reason for a slow down...you know the saying too many eggs in a basket
For every person that is slow there is another person that is running their wheels off.

The longer you are out there the more you will learn which areas are hot for frieght and which areas are not. Sometimes a short deadhead will help you, but it's something you are going to have to learn by yourself, as every company has it's strong and weak areas. One rule does not apply here.:)

What used to be the big three do shut down for 2 weeks during july. Not all are the same two weeks but I think the majority close the first two weeks. If your company runs a lot of auto then chances are it will be a little slow. You can still be in the right place at the right time and have a good roll.

In 4 different July's since I have been in the business, I have 2 good 1 bad, 1 not so bad...

But right now TODAY you have a few things going on...yes July is the norm "Shutdown" month for the Auto Industry...today is really the 1st work day of the week, monday can e a bit of a slow day...yesterday was the holiday so that pushed the 1st day of the work week to today...So yea it slow today...might pickup tomorrow, might not...but I do think the 3rd quarter is going to be real good anf the 4th quarter will be even better...

My crystal ball says July and Aug as slow...a matter of right place, right time and what your carrier has for customer base as Dakota said...(he shows signs of hope at times);)

Sept. up till Christmas should be a whole lot better as Honda and Toyota expect to be back to normal production...

It's not so much ours being strong as yours being weak. FFS
