I just got off the phone with a broker. They have two skids picking up in Akron going to Yuma, AZ. The load picks up tomorrow morning and needs to be in Yuma on Friday, around 2300 miles. They're wanting to pay no more than $650. I got the "but it's only a partial" line. Sometimes all you can do is laugh.

Should of told them to call an LTL carrier. The reason they didn't because the cost would have been much higher. The reason the have it on a load board is because they ae trying to get some sucker to take the load. Say no to CHEAP freight.

I do that sometimes as well, but my point is that this load qualifies as an expedite in my book, not an LTL. With that time frame, there is no way that load should move on an LTL rate. The bad thing is that someone will take it for that rate and move it along with something else, and then another broker just got by with moving expedited freight at LTL rates. That's further blurring the line between expedited and general freight.

I see what you are saying and had I read your first post a little more closely....I would agree that it is not right to send an expedite load at LTL rate. We don't run expedite freight that much, but when we do the rate is no less $1.75 per mile plus 22% FSC. That is our policy.

If it is a partial going 2300 miles for 650 dollars, I would have said yes.
"Snce it is a partial, I will take it part way."

Have to be flexible:)

That's not much over a quater a mile. That kind of rate is nuts. That's cheap freight I don't care who you are or what kind of expenses you do or don't have.

I asked a broker the other day if he was a tax exempt organization. He wanted to know why I asked that and I said, "So I can do that run and write it off as a charitable contribution."

Well, I just tell them that that's a great price for the first 300 miles. What do you want for the delivery? That's even a cheap price for an LTL. I would only even consider helping someone like that if I was already going to Yuma or Calexico. But that would be for a load that didn't need to be delivered in under 36 hours. I just laugh and leave my phone number. If it's really that important a load, let em sweat it. Some brokers just don't know how to sell freight services.

When I was with Panther I talked to brokers from time to time on backhauls. You tell them it's to cheap then they say they will call you back to see if they can add more money to it. I worked for a man here in Arkansas once and he said when they can get up in the numbers I need them to be in they'll call me back. Until I'll be looking for other options.

I quess I could be flexible to 600 on 200 miles if I can throw another load with it.
Remember.......flexiblity is the key.

for 2 skids at 650 bucks,it would only take 24 more skids to make that load 9200 bucks,now thats not cheap,but probably wouldnt get there til next week,would take rest of week loading those other 24 skids
