Join the rally vs Mexican truckers invasion!

American truckers plan to circle the White House and state capitals in a "rolling blockade",April 23-25 to protest a federal government plan to allow Mexican long-haul rigs to operate throughout the U.S.

Drivers who participate in "Truck-Out" also are being asked to run their rigs at the minimum speed permitted by law.

The protest is part of the "Hold Their Feet to the Fire" rally planned by the Federation for American Immigration Reform.

American truckers are going to have their jobs undercut or vanish into the hands of Mexican truck drivers as this Department of Transportation pilot project gains permanency.

Every American truck driver's job is at risk, and American drivers are going to see their wages undermined or they will lose their jobs altogether to Mexican drivers and Mexican trucking companies.

As WND reported, despite congressional opposition, the Bush administration expects to begin within weeks a pilot test that will allow Mexican trucks to operate freely across the U.S.

A spokesman for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Ian Grossman, told WND the agency plans to grant the first authority as early as the end of this month.

WND previously reported an amendment introduced by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., into the Fiscal Year 2007 Supplemental Appropriations Bill is designed to block the pilot test until the Mexican government authorizes U.S. trucking companies to operate in Mexico.

The plan calls for drivers to form a slow-moving line across major highways outlying Washington, D.C. and the state capitals of the lower 48 states.

Todd Spencer, executive vice president of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, the OOIDA, told WND his group shares "in the outrage that is being felt by the folks who are organizing and participating in the 'Truck-Out.'"

While OOIDA is not sponsoring or endorsing the protest, Spencer said the group is "encouraging our members to fully exercise their rights and responsibilities as American citizens to work within the system and convey their indignation to their elected officials."

"It is simply outrageous that our government plans to allow Mexican trucks full reign of U.S. highways before all safety, economic and homeland security concerns are completely and appropriately addressed," he said.

If you think we are having problems getting loads now at decent rates just think what this could do to the expedite community as well. Experts expect Mexican truck drivers to haul loads for considerably less than half the cost of U.S. truck drivers - so we should and most all know what that could create - even lower rates for all of us to try and make a living from.

If you are anywhere near a state capital during these days, or better yet, near DC - consider showing your support for the American Trucking Industry as we know it today. While this may effect the long haulers first, it like everything else will have a triggle down effect and fall down upon us as well. The industry may not be perfect - but at least it is ours!

Is anyone paying attention???? I heard today on one of the trucking channels on XM that they haven't heard yet if the MEXICAN TRUCKS are going to participate in the upcoming 72 HOUR NATIONWIDE DOT TRUCK CHECK in June. What????? I don't think I want to participate either, how about you? I don't understand how they can "opt out", isn't it obvious that if any trucks need to be checked it would be the ones coming into our country from Mexico? Does anyone know if Canada participates? I'm surprised there have not been any responses to this this IMPORTANT issue, especially on EO where usually everyone has an opinion.

Yes, the Mexican based trucks will have to comply with all the rules and regulations that we do.
There are several points to this whole issue. (1) While George W is willing to open our roads up to the Mexicans their government is delaying our entry into their country. (2) Our government has no firm cooperation from the Mexican government that we will be able to access their databases to confirm any criminal background of a driver. (3) As far as I am concerned the biggest problem of all is that transportation experts have stated that allowing Mexican trucking companies free run on highways will drive down the price of load offers to American drivers, thus, driving more and more American truckers out of a job and out of business.
We should not allow ANYONE to work in this country and have free run in this country if they are not willing at THE SAME TIME to give us the same treatment in their country. If we can not have a system that allows us to do a background check on every driver entering this country from Mexico - then this is a flawed program! AND if we have experts warning us that the Mexican driver will outbid us and drive down the load offers to us - THEN WHY IN THE SAME H WOULD OUR GOVERNMENT THINK THIS IS A GOOD PROGRAM!
This plan is flawed in so many ways, it is a slap in everyone's face in these days of post-911, it is a slap in the face of the American business man trying to protect American jobs and it is a slap in the face of the American trucker - the true backbone of American commerce!!!

I was listening to them (OOIDA) talk about the protest around the White House on Land Line Now a few days ago. Their comments and reccomendations were for a more non invasive approach. I don't recall their exact words but they cautioned against doing that based on the danger and possible exposure to arrest and harrasment to the truckers themselves. You have to remember this is the day and age of terrorist attacks and I'm sure a few thousand trucks riding around the White House would represent terrorist behavior in their eyes if they wanted it to. Also, a slow down on the interstates sounds effective but I don't think it would do much to promote the American trucker in the eye of the general public.

I agree with everything that is trying to be accomplished but question the overall effect of the method.

I agree the method may not be the best, but it is apparent, in the world we live in today, the politicans have the smallest ears and only hear what they want. The hope here is that they will feel more of an effect if they have some visual aid.

I assure you the planners of this protest on the various websites have encouraged truckers not to get in the way of any emergency workers, police, fire, EMT's and any funeral processions - afterall there are many funerals taking place at the national cementary everyday and we would not think about getting in the way of these people.

Also, DC police, national security officials and other law enforcement departments have set up a barrier which will not allow the truckers or any other protesting group on any day get within a certain area of the white house, congress and other national monuments. What that area restriction is I am not sure, but, as long as the truckers abide by the rules and restrictions set down by law enforcement this could be a very peaceful but productive show of unity.

maybe I just dont get it,if the canadians can only take our loads to canada,of course they bring loads in,how are the mexicans going to cause are rates to go down, when they can only take our loads to mexico.I know there are lots loads to border crossings, but I'm not sure this is going to change the pay scale, for our interstate loads

As much as I agree with the premise, the protest itself is meaningless unless they completely shut down the roads. Slowing traffic will not mean a thing and the efforts of a few hundred truckers in a place where there is thousands of vehicles going slow already will not have the impact expected.

If the organizers want to have a real impact on the issue, they need to organize groups of people to go to their representives in person and coheriently discuss the issue and their position, as much as many would see this as something that will not work, it will if it is done correctly.

Also ".... DC police, national security officials and other law enforcement departments have set up a barrier which will not allow the truckers or any other protesting group on any day get within a certain area of the white house, congress and other national monuments." - I find this a bunch of BS. The police do not stop certain groups from protesting right up to the gates of the White House, on the steps of congress and other places. They allowed for the first time to permit spray painting of the capital steps during a war protest without arresting or even considering charging anyone, the guy/girl who made this decision should have been fired and the congress should have investigated defacing of federal property unstead of stupod investigations they now have.

But again if this issues is so important to all of us, I think strongly feel that every trucker needs to get off thier lazy a** and do something about it, starting with putting down the spoon and fork, picking up the phone and calling their representive - if not writing or faxing them. But again I bet many trucks don't even want to take the effort to vote.

like most in trucking nobody's going to agree
major usa carriers have been building up fleets in mexico
they can't keep up with wetbacks now whats going to stop them from a team coming across single going back back
how many will pick up loads in us del in us
the solition is call your rep in white house and call and have everone else call and call and remind them they were voted in and can be replaced next election
until this is is solved we are going to see rate cuts
this is the next step on bringing american workers back to working for a company living in company house buying in company store and when payday comes you own the company more than you made
wake up america

Quote: (yes, this is a quote Principle Skinner...)

There’s going to be a week of protests and conferences and whatnot in DC this week (starting April 23) to highlight the opposition to grants of amnesty in any form to illegal aliens. While that’s all well and good, there’s another group coming to.. (ahem)… make their presence known. Apparently, a horde of “angry truckers†are coming to hose up what little mobility we in the DC area have:

So, be sure you understand what’s coming. A bunch of truck drivers are going to be driving at the minimum speed permissible by law - that’s 40 m.p.h. on the Capital Beltway around DC - from the left lane across to the right lane. And if that turns your commute from the normal 90 minutes to 4 hours, well, just (edited) on you. These are truckers and they’re worried about their jobs. Your jobs, on the other hand, are just a bunch of nonsense and are of no concern at all to these guys who are going to be just yukking it up as you crawl to a standstill.

I will hold them - each and every participant of this gleeful wrecking of their fellow American’s daytime schedule - personally responsible for the consequences of deliberately jamming up the traffic around here.

Every person who calls for an ambulance… and dies because they couldn’t hold out waiting for the medics to weave their way across surface streets because the highways are jammed: their fault.

Every person who calls for the police to help them while criminals rob them, assault them, or worse and ends up dead or wounded because the cops couldn’t reach them in time: their fault. I’m including the police who have to work traffic control instead of responding to real issues because of these selfish (edited).

Every person who has to frantically call for help from neighbors or friends to go pick up their children from daycare because the traffic is stalled and they can’t reach them before the school closes: their fault.

That’s just for starters. Of course, this hasn’t even occured to these people, I’m sure, because we’re all just a bunch of idiots who just get in their way while they do their jobs. We’re all just a bunch of know-nothing, do-nothing, care-nothing jackasses who don’t deserve any of the consideration I’ve mentioned.

So, sure, go ahead and strangle the traffic, guys. Go ahead and screw up a week of people’s lives; people who have never wished or caused you ill a day in their lives. I’m really, really sure they’re going to be so appreciative of your efforts and will agree so readily that the sheer chaos you’re about to drop into their lives was no trouble at all. They’ll be oh so prepared to head into battle on your behalf.

Mark my words. This will backfire and you will never, ever be able to say “we’re sorry†enough. Those people will never trust you or any of your ilk for the remainder of their lives and they will positively never look with an ounce of sympathy on you and your situation for the rest of your days. There are ways to get the message across that generate interest and positive action. This so ain’t it.

Firegears -
What?
Are you kidding me!
We as truckers should worry about how our protest will effect those heading to work for 2 or 3 days - you are blind to the whole picture.
You say we as truckers should worry about never being able to say 'we are sorry' to the general public for our protest which caused some headaches for 2 or 3 days.

Who says we as truckers should say we are sorry - it is the public that should be saying sorry, for not supporting our effect, for not fighting to protect decent wages for the American trucker, to protect our southern borders for a prospective flood of criminal activity driven by drivers we will be unable to do real criminal background checks on.

To the one person who does not understand how allowing a Mexican driver to transport freight into this country will not effect our load offers and pay, who claims they can only bring freight into the country not back out - you must learn all the facts.

If we are not allowed to transport into their country, which at this time Mexico does not have their program ready to accept our drivers, so we can not enter there yet, it will be the same Mexican drivers that will be allowed to bring freight back across the border - that brings down our load offers. In addition experts admit the Mexican driver will perform trips for a much lesser rate than what an American driver will - thus we lose again.

This is only the start - just around the corner waits a Mexican based trucking company ready to line the pockets of US senators, etc to open up the entire American Trucking industry to their companies.

I believe it is only a matter of time before they will overtake the American Trucking Industry from coast to coast - then waking some of you up, but at a much to late time frame.

Don't give me the BS that we are holding up police units, fire, EMS units, etc and making everyone's life a living hell for 2 or 3 days. If we do not stand up for the American trucker - who will?
The public? Not till they need something delivered and then they will forget us.
Seriously - who do you think will stand up for a trucker?
I say - just another trucker!
I hope we will all overcome our fear of taking some heat from the media, the politicans and the public.
Once in awhile you have to stand up and do something drastic - the next 2-3 days is just part of that.
Your actions may not be popular now - but if they have an everlasting effect working to change things for the better - that is what the real goal and acheivement must be.

Hey Fort Wayne,

Eaaaaaaasy big fella..!!!!!!

I just posted this QUOTE to show another side of the story.

It's just a discussion point from the "other side"
who COULD be preparing the general public to accept
a negative spin on this proposed trucker's protest.

Just thrown out for some thought on how we need to
be prepared to explain our situation/actions...

Please do not run over the messenger....
(I'd say "shoot the messenger" but DOT does not allow us
to carry a weapon...)

EXACTLY: what is the big hoopla all about? It's all part of the same mentality of putting up a big fence around the U.S. Dont you all understand it about international trade, especially in the auto industry? Why do expedites go to Laredo? Same as Canadians carrying on a racist beef against Pakistanis. Perhaps we should all get on a boat and protest against low wages in China?
