Avatar director James Cameron, Shrek filmmaker Andrew Adamson and Cirque du Soleil are to team up on a series of 3D movies.

Those involved have refused to reveal any details, other than the films will feature Soleil performers, famed for their acrobatic live performances.

The first movie project, which has yet to be named, is already in production.

Cameron said footage that has already been shot will "mesmerize audiences of all ages around the world".

He added: "The images we've been shooting are stunning, and I know Andrew Adamson will weave them into a transporting, dreamlike narrative."

In January, Cameron's Avatar was named the highest grossing movie of all time, beating his own film Titantic, which had previously held the title.

Adamson has directed five films, including two movies in the Shrek series.

Performances by the Canada-based Cirque du Soleil include imaginative acrobatics, and colourful characters and costumes.

Their shows have played to more than 100 million people around the world since 1984.

We have been lucky enough to have seen several Cirque shows and have tickets to see another over Christmas.

The Fabulous Fox Theater in downtown Saint Louis is having Cirque Dreams Holidaze and we are looking forward to this. We have never been disappointed by a Cirque show.

I am not so sure of this new project as I have found 3D shows make me a little ill so I avoid them.
