See here is the issue, many in the press, the president/treasury, congress and many bloggers all roll the debt into one big lump WHICH it isn't.
His point is to wipe the debt that is owed to the federal reserve, which is no debt at all, how can you owe yourself money and interest?
We are paying on a debt with interest and by just saying to the fed - we won't pay, there is nothing that can be done.
On the other hand he is absolutely right, the checks will go out. most of the issues raised with the social security and other payments are raised to get people upset and to force the congress to act asap but in reality we have enough money to cover the SS checks and the interest payments on the treasuries (which by the way can be legally delayed for a few months) but the down side will be simply that the ancillary government agencies will not be able to function - which I say who gives a crap. I don't see the big rush to man the federal parks or to have the department of commerce foreign affairs office mailing out info to foreign companies as something that is important to the country. By the way, Medicare payments can be also stopped for a few months. The providers do not have a choice and can't cut off people because of charges submitted and approved are in the process of being paid. This is another BS story that has been floated around.
As for Iraq and Afghanistan, they need to stand on their own. I would actually be pulling troops out based on one thing - we no longer need to be there because the country has changed direction.
The more important question I have for Ron Paul and the entire Republican party is this;
Where in the constitution does it say the president is in control of the congress?
