IRP plates required for Van under 10K?

Can anyone tell me if I need IRP plates for my 3/4 ton Sprinter? The vehicle runs under 10k.
The company I intend to lease to says I need to be licensed for 48 states. I live in Ohio. Would regular commercial plates fill that requirement? Thanks for any help.

I was hoping for a different answer :( but thats what I thought. Do they base the rates on weight? Any idea how much they cost?

Some states like pa. dont even require a commercial plate. A standard passenger car plate is all that is required for window vans and a standard truck plate for cargo vans.

In Mich, that's how it is if the vehicle is used for personal use. If that window van is used commercially, it needs the truck plate.

I was under the impression that all you need is truck plates. Why would a cargo van, under, 10,000 gvw, need irp/apportioned plates? Remember, a cargo van falls under the gvw limit for cdl requirements, unless you are hauling hazmat.Sounds to me like they just want you to waste your $$$.This was told to me by my local license plate agency.I had several 25,950 gvw straight trucks in the past that did not require irp/apportioned plates, but a regular truck plate, which is different from a non-comm plate(non-commercial) and a car plate.

In Ohio all you need is the truck plate it will cost you 100-150 dollars a year depending on what county and what you GVW is. I run my business out of Wood County and with a 9600GVW it is 105.00 dollars a year. Hope this helps you:D

I get commercial plates because 8,000 gvw is scale weight..anything under that, commercial or not, can use either...most I think elect the commercial plate as it looks better as a tax deduction...
