Inward Cargo Manifest and Inventory

We have filled out our first ICM coming out of Canada with our work related items in the cargo box. We must have done it right because we are in the United States now. Taking the time to fill out that form and actually write down everything in the cargo box made us think of all of our personal items in the truck. We have decided to really work on an inventory contents sheet and with the help of Terry and Rene' have found a great web sight to help us out. http://www.iii.org You can down load an inventory sheet that will also allow you to put pictures and costs with your items. We plan on doing this with our truck inventory and also update our inventory at the house.

For those willing to do the work a video inventory is the way to go. I've posted in the Loading Dock about what insurance companies look for. Good link. Thanks.

Thank you for the reminder about the new manifest requirement. They told us about this in orientation but it's a task that has worked its way down the to-do list. Better to have it done before we enter Canada when the freight might rush you back.

Inward cargo manifest requires personal items now? Is this just the cargo area or the whole truck?

Yea we have to fill ot another form....

Customs and FedEx both told me to mark it -->EMPTY<-- so I have been and have received no comments from the officers in the booth. one out of the four looked at it - all others threw it in the pile with the other empty ICMs. I am wondering what caused this?

I have been asked specifically what I have in the truck by Canadian customs my last visit and asked to detail everything but not by US customs in a long time.

Oh well time to clean out my truck.

Yes that is what I am talking about. Coming to the states empty with only your personal items in the back. You need to list everything you have back there in case customs wants to check that you are empty. Save yourself a lot of hassle when you are not really empty because you have your personal items.

Well except for rumor and such I've seen NO official notice of this requirement and twice now I've asked at the booth and neither one has heard of this....this said you could ask 12 different DHS officers this question and get 12 different answers.

One thing they are doing is turning trucks around especially Port Huron for not knowing your release number of your PAPS. When you check with your broker and they say you can cross and your all set-up ASK for the release number! The DHS is NOT being consistent on this...so what is is new....
