Inverter Generator

I've been looking around the net at generators.....way back when I bought my first Honda 2000 model...the 2000 indicated 2000 watts of power....that went even for the lesser brands.....NOW I see....it is 2000 SURGE and ONLY 1600 watts...of which they still recommend not to use extended time on full power or burn out the inverter....it is recommended to run at 10% LESS then the 1600 watts....which would be about 160 watts less or off the 1600....which would be 1540 watts.....So if your running a 1500 watt heater you are really pushing the unit hard....and add an laptop, charger even a simple light and you are there at max.......Yamaha, Generac all say the same thing.....
By the looks of it the Yamaha's are really catching up to the Honda pricing...only about 20-40 $ difference...

Yamaha makes a 2400 model rated at a true 2000 watts....for a couple hundred bucks more....

Hey Canadian math guy.... The answer in the metric system might be 1540 watts but here in the good old USA the answer keeps coming up 1440 watts!

Thank you...still on 1st coffee here......BUT that means the news is even worse for those running electric heaters.....you mistakenly tell the guy you are running 1500 watt heater all night IF he/she catches it...the warranty will be null and void...

That's what I've said all along. The Honda only puts out 1,600 watts continuous. I found that the china units at about half the price actually put out 2,000 watts with a 2,100 watt surge capacity. I bought this Honeywell.

Yes and most gens only get 5-6 hrs at full run with a heater....almost 4 gallons of gas per day or over $12 a day to run....200 heat days buys an Espar....

what is the warranty? and is it about 500 bucks?.....

2 year warranty and bought it off EBay for $375 with no tax and free shipping. Runs a 1,500 watt heater and my TV with no problem on econo mode. Also runs a 10,000 btu portable A/C in summer also on econo mode. Tried a 12,000 btu but it was too much, ran the gen at full capacity and still didn't really have enough juice.

I don't even carry the gen in winter anymore since getting the Espar. Still plan on using it for the A/C this summer. Going to use the newly installed fuel tank pickup that I installed for the Espar to power my gen this summer directly off my vehicle fuel tank.

That makes me question the power rating they supply. My Honda runs my 1300 but rooftop in Eco mode no problem along with laptop and a couple lights. I do know people who are happy with the Honeywell. I have a ryobi 2200 I really liked the performance of but after just a couple months the starter cord asst needed replaced. I have to admit it didn't have the easy start of the Honda

What type of AC? If it's a RV AC it'll probably be a 13500 btu or a 10500? I have a Yamaha 2000 and it runs a small heater fine for about 6-7 hours with the heat @ 750 watts;however, it won't start my 13500 on 1 of my RV's.:)

does that AC have one of them capacitors on it?....it seems that is the way the gang here has gone with to be able to handle the power surge....

I have my setup just like xiggi's. I have the ryobi 2200 generator and have no problem with it. It only bogs down with you first turn on the ac and when the compressor kicks on to keep it cooling.

That Honeywell (really a sister to the Generac) ran an 8000BTU portable air unit in Laredo....all day/night long. Wanted the Yamaha, but geared down for that unit, while never disappointed. It peaks at 2100 and ran the air unit on Eco without a hiccup. Only thing I would consider a drawback, was the 4 hour fuel fill time.

It's fairly quiet and a very nice unit for the bucks. If we can't quite swing the Yamaha again this summer (switched vans and have to start over) would not hesitate to buy that Honeywell again.
