Inverter Generator

Anyone have experiences with this style of generators?
I know that the Honda's and Yamaha's are reliable;however, one's from China?
Sams Club has one for $900 includes ship.& Handling.
It's 3500 watts surge and 3250 watts normal load.
Weighs about 70 lbs, small like a suitcase, runs 5 hours @ 50% load and 3.5 at 100%.
Has a 30 amp and 15 amp outlets and states that it would run an RV air conditioner. I know Onan claims their 2800 watt generator will run a 135000 btu A/C. I went to the supplier's web site easterntool.com and they seem to have decent coverage for warranty locations.

Thanks

There is a word about inverter type generators - it seems I can't remember the word ... wait ... it is like a John Wayne film ... Hondi ... Hondy ...

Oh Yea!

Honda.

Can't go wrong with one. It isn't just the reliability but repairs that matter. If you are using it and the electronics craps out on you, it is easy to get parts. Believe me with the non-Honda generators i have in my barn, I am still looking for parts for a few of them.

I just priced one and it's almost $3,000. I know you pay for quality but wow. Saw a used one on Ebay for about $1150. starting bid.
Think a used one is possibly a good buy?

Is your AC an apartment type or an RV? I have an almost brand new 135000 btu RV AC. I have contemplated using a smaller generator but I think about 2500 would be marginal. Are the Honeywell's built in USA or Japan. I think Korea or Taiwan makes some decent things but China?

Thanks,
Big Al
I have a Honeywell 2000 in my van now...i powers my single room 12,000 btu ac unit.....

Here is a link for the AC unit:

As for where the to Honeywell is made, i don't know, all i know is it works just fine.

Very interesting, According to the ones for sale at Sams Club they have a 8000 BTU that only uses 900 watts. I guess a 12K wouldn't be that much more?
I am assuming that a 8000 BTU would be OK for a van and maybe a little smaller size wise?
How do you set up the intake and exhaust?

I installed a "MaxAirr" roof vent Maxxfan General Overview that i use all the time it is both intake and exhaust and is mounted right ver my bed. I cut a 4 inch hole in the wall of the van and installed a "louvered dry vent" then usea 5 in to 4 in vent hose adapter and slide the exhaust hose from the AC unit onto that...

I am sure a 8000 btu unit would work find in a van. I have a heavy quilt hung over a shower rod to seperate the 1st 5 ft right behind the drivers seat from the cargo area to keep both the heat and the cooled air from the AC unit up ft.

Honda Inverter 2000 w.

Bought it at a Camping World for $900. There are also a couple of RV Surplus places in Elkhart Indiana that I have been in that have Honda's cheap.

It also depends on the startup current of the compressor. Some of them are as high as 2500 watts while others are just about 1300 watts - all for an 8000 to 10,000 BTU unit.

$3000. was for a 3000 watt.

I think I'll go with the 8k btu portable AC like ChefDennis uses so I can use a smaller generator.

I knew i wanted a portable AC was thinkin about a roof top, then OVM mentioned the setup that "Steady Eddie" had, I contacted him and he told me what he had and thats how i went, except i didn't get the unit with the "heat strip"...i already had enough "Hot Air".....so my hat is off to Stedy on the AC...as for the Generator, the guy at Camper World told me that the Homelite was as good as the Honda and cheaper, and he didn't have one to sell me...so i bought it online....it has worked great....
