Interesting Fedex CC Ad

This arrived in my e-mail box this morning via EO's The Wire newsletter. It is especially interesting that the bonus is paid not after a year or six months, but when orientation is completed.

I mentioned this in another thread, it is interesting the amount of bonuses you can get.

They may give it to you quickly but there is probably a term of service (1 yr) included and deducted from your final pay if you don't meet the contract terms.

Yeah, a bonus for long term service. That might increase good will and cut down on turnover. Then what would recruiters do?

If any of you remember my respond to JD Clark's I-Pad give away & sign on bonus, then i said it will come back and bite everyone's in the butt.
2,500$ is almost unheard of in trucking, and a simple clue that a carrier have nothing to show for.
this have nothing to do with FXCC. sign on bonuses are stupid's, and useless, and it is a sham that our industry have resulted to money give away and some vague seance of patriotism as a recruiting agenda.
as i said then, if one is considering a career in Expedite, or a carrier change, the sign on bonus is worthless, and should not play a part for choosing a carrier.
if 2,500$ makes any difference what so ever to a family, then they are not ready for an O/O career anyway. and the carrier is setting them to fail.

the larger the sign on bonus - the lower the carrier is shooting recruiting wise.

that same money can be used to provide perspective O/O's with the tools they needs to be successful. like skid-pad training, paid for business classes, free accounting software's and tax preparations services, Ext.
(all of of which i received BTW, FREE from TransportAmerica before entering the small business owner's world).

Good points, Moose. Landstar also offers skid pad training, paid for business classes, free accounting software (but no free tax prep services that I know of).

Comapnies that do that demonstrate true respect for owner operators and a true understanding that a contractor is a business person instead of a slug who can be manipulated with a signing bonus and later exploited.

A $2,500 signing bonus for a DoD team that already has a clearance? A good DoD team can make more than that with one load and if they are already cleared, they are almost certainly doing such loads already. Methinks that the only teams that might respond to FDCC's offer are those who have been terminated elsewhere or are starving for reasons other than the lack of DoD freight.

Or just maybe they have a sudden increase in DOD business, and need to recruit teams quickly..... hmm.. what a thought. Many companies are offering bonuses right now... its just another incentive.

Business is up, and so is recruiting. Last month, turnover was actually down from a year ago....and not just flat rate stuff.

They are not bringing in the ES fleet just for fun. There is a reason for the sudden boost in trucks.

DoD business is not solicited like commercial business is. All approved carriers access it the same way. If there is more to be had, it is available equally to all carriers. If FDCC is preparing to do more of it, they can get it but only by bidding prices below all others.

The last time Diane and I attended the required HAZMAT training at FDCC, the word among drivers was that many were not renewing their credentials because the loads had become too cheap to bother with. The teams may have remained with the company but, by their choice, not DoD eligible.

Before Diane and I left, we were declining more and more DoD loads for the same reason (low pay), hauling almost none in the months that preceded our departure.

It does not surprise me a bit that FDCC is offering signing bonuses payable immediately upon completing orientation. A number of DoD teams have left, some of the ones who stayed let their credentials lapse, and many of those who kept their credentials were refusing DoD loads because the price was too low.
