THOMAS: Dysfunctional British system could be ours...

Quoting the Office for National Health Statistics, The Mail notes, "This equates to more than 550,000 people for whom worklessness has become a way of life." Worse, "seven out of 10 adults in those households admit they have no intention of ever going to work." This is the triumph of the entitlement mentality. America, beware.

They WANT us dependent on them. It is FAR easier to control someone who DEPENDS on the government for their needs.

I talked to someone across the pond this morning who's brother decided because he can't find a job, he has to move back into his parents home and collect 'relief'. He is single, no real debt so for some odd reason he is getting $250 a week just because. Go figure.

Being on the "Dole" is OK for some. I would be ashamed if I could not handle adult responsibilities and support my self. I can't even imagine being an adult and having to live with "mommy and daddy". How disgusting to be OK with that.

Sooo much I agree with in that piece but .......

Though I see the date on it - when was it actually written I wonder? It mentions nothing of the proposed major overhaul of the NHS.

This bit .....

Add to these concerns the huge number of Muslim immigrants who display no desire to be assimilated into British life

is so true, but again the report mentions nothing of the soon to be implementation of new laws concerning Immigration .....

And then there is the disappearance of Britain's once proud work ethic, thanks to the expansion of the welfare state under the Labour Party

Oh I think the work ethic is still with us - its the ppl who come to the UK looking "for a new life" (yeah right) that get these benefits straight away and NEVER come off them or are NEVER made to come off

The Labour Party is "Democrat" Party in the US - in case it was not obvious.

The NHS is going broke for the simple reason ppl don't want to pay anymore for it and of course lets not forget ALL the ppl that enter the Country that head straight for benefits don't have to pay either.

Thanks E.U.

There is a big difference than between the two countries that can't be ignored. The success rate among many immigrant population here is higher than what people would think. I feel that the reason for many to come here is still the idea of opportunity to make it on their own.

The other thing that I seem to think that is a big problem is how the Europeans and the UK handle the assimilation, many times these are former colonies and the people have a predisposition about how they are to be treated and how they must keep their culture intact. This seems to happen a lot.

I remember many of my English/British friends who ran businesses over there would often close down if they were going to earn too much money in any given week. Once they went past a certain point the rest went to taxes. That eased up a bit after Thatcher lowered tax rates. IF if remember correctly the top tax rate was at 98% when I first got over there in '76. Thatcher cut them by quite a bit after we got over there.

Even the "Beatles" got sick of the taxes, wrote a song about it:

1,2,3,4,1,2

Let me tell you how it will be,
There’s one for you, nineteen for me,
‘Cause I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.
Should five per cent appear too small,
Be thankful I don’t take it all.
‘Cause I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.

(If you drive a car ), I’ll tax the street,
(If you try to sit ), I’ll tax your seat,
(If you get too cold ), I’ll tax the heat,
(If you take a walk ), I’ll tax your feet.
Taxman.

‘Cause I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.
Don’t ask me what I want it for
(Haha! Mister Wilson!)
If you don’t want to pay some more
(Haha! Mister Heath!),
‘Cause I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.

Now my advice for those who die, (Taxman!)
Declare the pennies on your eyes, (Taxman!)
‘Cause I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.
And you’re working for no-one but me,
(Taxman

LOL

That still holds true today - some ppl won't work over a certain point for overtime, because it will make them fall into the next tax bracket.

Those high taxes kill the work ethic. No point in working when they are going to take it all away!
