Looking for cheaper insurance, with a 100 to 200+ increase difference at same company and still have clean record. Any ideas?

Read recent insurance and /or Progressive threads.
That may be as good as you'll do.

After taking the winter off, I called Progressive Monday for a quote.
With 2.5 million safe driving miles, no tiks, no accidents, high Insurance Credit Score, the nice young lady informed me they could cover my Cargo Van for only $829 down and $829 a month for 9 months. I jumped at the chance to thank her & hang up the phone. My thoughts are, I will spend more time fishing, staying home, sleeping in my own bed & enjoy my wifes good home cooking..

Before I took some time off last year I was paying $241 per month. Now, same company, same CV, exact same coverage, same driver, they want to charge me $800 per month. With per mile rates down, fuel cost up along with other increase in maintenance cost up, I just don't see wearing out a vehicle for peanuts while the companies bottom line is growing. It's no wonder some workers want to form unions.

I think insurance is just where it needs to be a or even a bit higher.....the rates were way too low for the risk.....after all it ain't the family van we are talking, it IS a business....hope this drives some of the wanna be's and marginally involved back to flippin burgers...

We have been over this a hundred times since rates increased. People are always quick to blame the insurance company when the blame is on the industry. Ken is rite ( can't believe I just said that ) LOL. You can buy less expensive coverage somewhere else but be prepared when settlement time comes and you are chasing the less expensive coverage you bought. With " certain " agents all that is needed is a phone call. As I have said before, it may be a more expensive phone call but it's one I will gladly continue to make. C I S !!!!!!

Right now, there are two things driving the rates. One is the risk, of course. The other is that, as of this writing, Progressive/CIS are the only game in town for this kind of insurance. With no competition, what do you think the rates are going to be like? If you want Expeditor's Insurance, you'll pay Progressive's rates--- period.

We had the same show with the Sprinters, if you remember-- or are paying it now, for that matter. Want a vehicle the size of the Sprinter, with the fuel economy it had/has? For the longest time, Mercedes and its affiliates, Freightliner and Dodge while Dodge carried it, were the only game in town for vehicles of that size, so they set the price and you paid the price they set if you wanted one. They also determined what level of customer service they would provide, and if you didn't like it that was too bad as long as you had your heart set on a Sprinter. Now that other comparable vehicles are starting to show up, Sprinter may become more reasonable as far as price and service are concerned. Competition has a way of doing that. The same thing would happen to these insurance rates if other companies started to get in on the deal. Right now, it's a one-company show so that company can set the rates it likes.

I'd rather drive for Bolt than getting a policy from Aggressive. Progressive. What ever. For me they're nothing but a bunch of thieves.

Now , now, lets not be rowdy, without insurance one could not post where one is located everyday, but you could call it Posting Insurance...

How about they're in business to make a profit.
How many vans at $6-8,000 a year do you need to have enough after costs to cover that $15 Million dollar settlement ?
If you can't get enough to cover your costs, speaking to nobody in particular, then maybe you're in the wrong business.
Progressive isn't the problem.
85 cpm freight is.
If Progressive exited expediting today, what would most here do ?

As vans we are not regulated and many do not always drive smart. You have people out here driving half asleep, overloaded and 1500 miles at a time. The liabilities the insurance companies face have to be huge. They have profit and loss figures from our segment and adjust according to what they show.

If anyone has not already read the series written on the blogs here by cis, sherry? I recommend they do so, she did a great job of explaining what is going on.

Why would you say that Progressive is the only company? There are several other carriers out there. However, that is much different than who is the best. CIS is the best out here for our industry IMO. At this point, there is probably enough posts on the subject to confirm that.
As mentioned, as exposure increases so do the rates. I would also agree, running "bottom feeder" freight at .85 cents per mile is the bigger problem if one finds their rates out of reach.
Have to look at ALL of the picture, not just part of it.

We'll see what happens come renewal time, however, I have to say that my personal experience with Progressive has been excellent. Very good customer service, easy to do business with, and competitively priced. I've had more than once occasion where I needed to add a certificate holder or additional insured during non-typical business hours and it was quick and painless. BIPD is the major component of the policy cost, so, I have to think the insurance community has concluded liability risks are fairly high even with smaller equipment.

Those actuaries guys need to be fired, lol. Or they need to come up with better formula for safe drivers.
