Insurance Question

Hi. I am just starting to look at this industry. Soon I will be looking for a new venture at age 58. I am told that even though I will have a CDL, without experience I will cost too much to insure. No company will be willing to hire and insure me even though I am willing to work for low wages. Will I be forced to buy my own truck to get into OTR trucking?

Since you're here at the site a few day less than me, I'm entitled to say "welcome".
I'm not very conversent on the insurance industry so my comment is limited that which I know. You'd perhaps be surprised to know that a great many folks who enter the expedite industry do so without any trucking experience. Many of those have retired from other disciplines and are your age or greater; many in their 60/70's. Typically, we're all independent contractors or non-employee drivers of independent contractors. Consequently we have our own vehicle and health insurance or we are part of a group plan made available, at a cost, by their company or their owner. Enjoy the site, absorb the info and you'll do well but don't settle for low wage

I like that.....don't settle for low wages. Sound advise. If you are in good health, age shouldn't be a barrier. Expediting is a little different than OTR. As mentioned, read, and become as knowledgable as you can.
If you have questions and don't see it, this is the place to ask.

Now I learn "expediting is diferent from OTR". What is the diference? Thanks. I am not afraid of the investment needed to enter this industry. I am afraid of the insurance premiums that would make me work longer hours than I want to. I don't want to work to make an insurance company rich.
