Insurance companies

Many over the road truckers, have gotten off the road to be home with the family, and then later on want to go back on the road. Many take non driving jobs after being on the road. I have two close friends that did just that, and now are ready to go back out on the road again, after being in another job, one for 5 years the other for 8 years. The problem with both is that they are having a difficult time getting with a good company, even though both have several years TT driving experience with clean records, because of the insurance companies demanding RECENT over the road experience, usually meaning at least one year out of the last three. Is there any way around that requirement? They both asked me and I don´t know the answer to this one. Seems to me an experienced driver, with a clean record would be a better choice than a newbie out of driving school. They certainly haven´t forgotten how to drive. Is it just guidelines, and if so does anyone know the reason. I understand if they would have moving violations etc. but neither of them do.

All I can say is tell them to hunt. Call every company until they get a yes... and they will get a yes.

Off topic, but same idea... Driver has a 14 yr old failed drug test. The company he tried for wouldn't take him. But I know there's someone who will. Come on... 14 yrs?

Many insurance companies will let you take a driving test from a licensed truck driving school to verify that you can still drive. It's a pain and a small expense on your part, but at least you'll be able to get insurance from that company.

Ask the insurance company if they have their own form for the school to fill out or if they will accept a certificate/letter from the school verifying that you took and passed the driving test. Some insurance companies will also tell you where to take the driving test. Good luck.

I know some companies will offer " refresher " courses . Unfortunately it will not be with one of the better companies . Same with the old drug test failure . Somebody will hire him . Years back FHWA required companies to have an Employee Assistance Program . Employees that failed drug screens could get in a program and get back behind the wheel as soon as they tested clean .
