insurance catch-22

I am buying a cargo van and will be leased to a carrier. The carrier will give me a letter of intent, so lender knows the van will be insured once I'm signed on with the company. My question is--how is a driver and vehicle insured for the purpose of registering the vehicle and the time until arriving at the carrier? I've talked to a couple insurance companies and their only answer was that they don't do that kind of coverage. I have a call into the company I plan to lease to, but I'm also wondering about how other people dealt with this.

eb,

To cover yourself, I would insure the van as a personal vehicle with your friendly insurance guy, drive to wherever. When you are signed on with a carrier and have trucking insurance then cancel the insurance with the local insurance co. That is what I did. Don't leave your driveway without some kind of insurance!!!
Good luck and drive safely.

I just told PII that I needed coverage, and they faxed the stuff showing coverage for the trip.
