Improved gas milage

Hey all,

I think I've found at least part of the answer to improving gas milage a little bit. Awhile back I asked some others if they had any ideas & I gave em all a try.

I slowed down some, & while that makes a little bit of a difference, it didn't make a whole lot. I'm also sure that the warmer weather has helped some in the milage.

What I feel has made the biggest difference in my milage is having synthetic oil put in my van when I get an oil change. Before the synthetic, my milage was in the 14s & 15's. I could count on getting maybe 450 miles to a tank of gas. Now I'm in the high 16's & occasionally even hit the low 17s & can get over 500 miles to a tank of gas.

There may be other factors, but I've pretty much changed variables one at a time & my personal opinion is synthetic oil is the biggest difference maker.

Hope this helps some,
Danny

Synthetic oil will do that for ya. On a gasser it is easier to justify than a diesel. My power stroke holds just under 5 gallons of oil. at 3-5 dollars a quart I would never realize any cost savings, I would probably go backwards. Keeping you foot off the floor, a K and N filter, proper tire inflation and a well tuned engine will go a long ways for ya in the mileage department to.

i have found out the samething watch jack rabbit start's and use the cruise when you can
drive for green watch your speed and sometimes you miss alot of red lights in hampton roads area of va the red lights are at 3.5 min's on avg so if you catch 5 or 6 at a time that is about 18 mins waiting at red lights, also tk7 for gas or diesel works great increase milage's
if you want to know more e mail and tell ya more

drive in hampton roads area spend 90 mins a day waitting at red lights and stop signs and that almost 450 mins a week not moving
that's 1800 mins a month, 21,600 mins. on a year not moving

Great Observations. I will Post a new Form next time I am home. Just want to Thank Glen Rice. Took his advice, contacted both Cummins, and Kenworth regarding how poor my fuel mileage has been.

Hope we found the cure seemed to of I usually burn 1/3 of a tank from N. Indiana to the Carolina's this time just 1/4. What did it?
Re-programed the transmission from a 5spd to a 6spd, but thats not all Cummins ran a history report shows you what you actually are doing wrong in your driving habbits and right. Yeah even a rookie has some luck. Anyway I will give everyone a update later after I have some more miles behind me.

Biggest waste Idle 23% and they felt this was terrific I don't. I know several times I should and will shut her down fueling, waiting to load unload. How many times do you think it will only be a couple of minutes when you realize the truck has been running for almost a half an hour? I know I am guilty no more. The truck has acutally been averaging in gear 8.9 mpg but ideling cuts that down to 8.1 or lower.

Got a great computer print out and hope to actaully be seeing close to 10. I will post later.
