I'm not a professional trucker, but....

I am hoping some wise persons here can help me out.

I am a single female who hauls a 36' fifth wheel trailer with a Ford F350 dually diesel, with crew cab. I go on long hauls (ie: BC to FL and back) and am planning to do BC to NV and cross the Rockies in the NV area in late October '05.

My question is: Are there any passes on the Interstate that most closely follows the old route 66, of which I should be aware for snow, etc? I am specifically going south to miss the more northerly almost guranteed to be icy ones (and to avoid Denver, where last trip through I almost had more yuppy-car hood ornaments than I can count - HATE that town for driving!!!) My eventual destination this trip is Arkansas, with a return route late in the spring of '06 stright up to Canada, and across Canada to get back to BC.

I know I'm not a trucker, but you guys and gals have your heads screwed on properly, and have never led me astray yet. Thanks.

Howdy, intersting plans? I'm not sure why you want to go thru Nevada and the mountain ranges. As you know the possibility of being stuck in a snowing mess are pretty good this time of year. I assume you were going to cut off in California and run by Mt. Shasta and go thru Reno Nv. That is a beautiful drive. Why not then run down thru Tonapa Nv. and go thru Vegas and head down to Amarillo Tx. and head southeast from there down to I-10 and before you know it your in the Sunshine State! Otherwise you're going to be running I-80 and dropping into Colorado thru Laramie Wy. Have fun, be safe, and be profitable!

Thanks Glen, I've already done the I-80 route last year, and it is the potential for those passes I want to avoid as I'm going later in the year next trip.

I travel with my two pet parrots, and inspite of six months worth of complex paper work on both sides of the border and over $400 in vet's bills, certificates, etc, I still am not allowed to take them into the state of California. That means I have to go through Nevada for the most southerly route, but I had heard that the passes there are pretty ""interesting"" last in the fall as well.... hence my questions. My ideal winter route would be... oh... down to Sacramento and across, but with CA out of the picture, that leaves nevada.

I shall do some research on past weather statistics for the area (someone e-mailed me a site address) and see where to go.

Thanks again. I KNEW you people would say it straight! :)
