If ya gotta sit during this storm, get paid!

Any other time I would probably be BTCHing up a storm for sitting and waiting on a load to go. But not this time! For some reason (maybe our guardian angel was watching over us) the engine that was supposed to be ready at 11:00 am Monday morning in the Houston area did not clear for realease and pick up. Sat all day and nothing. The customer asked that we continue to "standby" and that detention pay applied until this engine clears. It is almost 3:00 pm Wednesday and here we still sit making nearly the same as if we were running. I LIKE THAT!

I can only wonder how long customer will continue to pay us to sit before giving up and releasing the truck? Then they will have to catch the next truck available in the area when engine finally clears. No clue as to what the hold up is but not complaining. Kept us off of these nasty roads until storm passes and snow and ice is cleared. Atlanta looks unbelievable on the news!!!

This is the first time I have ever heard of anyone making detention pay that almost matches what they would make if they were running.

My former carrier payed $82 or $84 per hour detention after the first hour for a cargo van. At the time my average per mile was about $1.02. So I made slightly less on detention because my average running speed was 85-90 mph. Oh, I forgot to figure in fuel cost. Um, oh yeah, I installed the Super Diablo Power Play Slap Shot Puck and became a refinery on wheels and sold excess fuel to drivers of crappy vans who run for crappy carriers. And the Wooly Bully chip was like having an onboard mechanic that magically performed all routine maintenance.

I love to drive and get paid to do it. I also don't mind sleeping and getting paid.

So we make $1600.00 detention pay to wait not quite two days to load this load. Get loaded and take off to our Texas delivery point. Less than fifty miles from delivery stupid deer runs out into lane in front of me and instead of continuing to cross the interstate which I would have missed him/her, turns and tries to out run my truck. Deer veers right, I veer left into the other lane while rapidly slowing my truck and not wrecking up the ten million dollar engine on my deck. All looks good until the last second when stupid deer suddenly makes a hard left turn directly in front of me. Deer and I connect. Deer goes flying never to be seen again. Truck sustains $2000.00 in damage to the front. Have $1000.00 deductable. I make $600 detention on load. Repair shop will get the rest.

FREAK"N STUPID DEER!!! Hope you are still picking my bumper out of your arse! And when you fart I hope the fog light that got shoved up your sorry butt lights up for all to see! LOL

I sympathize with you having damaged your truck, but that last paragraph made me spray coffee on my keyboard. That is halarious, plus being so descriptive.

NEVER VEER FOR A DEER, I suspect that you will be severely reprimanded for this when the "expert" drivers check in.

I really feel sorry for the deer.

Kinda like Rudolph with his shiny nose. All the other deer laughed and called him names. Poor Rudolph! I'm sure this deer is suffering worse. All his deer pals laghing at his shiny arse!

"Hey Buck, fart again so we can watch your butt light up!"
