Idling

There are still plenty of trucks out there, without the auxiliary heat and AC units installed. What are you doing to compensate, in the states where they have the anti idling laws. What do you see in the way of enforcement? Winter is coming on, and summer in some places was HOT, with a repeat expected next year.

You know I never had a problem idling in California. When I was north of LA, almost every truck idled throughout the day and night and never saw anyone from the environmental GESTAPO step up and hand out fines. This also was the case in Denver, Reno, SLC and other places where there were strict anti-idle laws.

I got one of my APU engines (I have not found the second one yet) and waiting for the parts to retro-fit the pollution cr*p for California. I am going this route to eliminate any hassles and make sure that I will again be the only truck in the entire state of California when I return.

We compensated by removing the only apu we had on a truck. By the time we removed the apu, the liquids, the blower fans, the wires and controls, we removed 1700 lbs from the truck. Trees still work for us. A lot cheaper.

Think Sleeping bags.......... I also utilize Idleaire when I need to. Truth is I have never had a problem in non-idle states. I do NY State more than some of the others. Use some common sense and your Good attitude and play dumb and most of the time thats good enough. Some times us drivers create our own problems to cause controversary or drivers egos are huge and they have to be right. That is not going to work every time but 95%. Point being I have not yet had a problem...............

My truck is wired for shore power. Back in 2003 I was sure truck stops would start providing AC hook ups. WRONG.

Oh well it still comes in handy when at home, and the occasional camp grounds.

Other than that I use a Fantastic roof fan, window screens, and propane space heater for the winter.

Idling cost for Aug $49.July $00.June $00.May $102.April $00.March $104.Feb $125.Jan $202.

Average $72.75 per Mo.

I figure my payback if I got an APU would take about 12 years.I dont think any of them will last that long.
