I Need Your Help Out There!!!!!!

Expert Expediter
I have been looking at getting into the expedite business as an O/O driving a 22' straight truck. I attended the Expedite Expo this past summer in Detriot and got some idea of what to expect. I have also spent countless hours searching the internet including EO and made hundreds of spreadsheets to figure out what the financials could look like. The reason I have been waiting to get into the business was because I had another business that I was running and have finally sold. I did very well at that but I have always wanted to be in the trucking business. Needless to say, I bleed diesel. I am now ready to get started. Not quite. I still am looking for some solid info. in regards to avg. miles/week, avg. revenue/mile etc... I have spoken to pretty much all of the bigger expedite co. out there and I am still asking myself wether I should get into OTR driving or expediting.
I have been reading some of the posts here and I am becoming discouraged in what I am reading. I have read that the guys running with FedEx CC are having a hard time getting loaded because of too many trucks over there (I was considering signing with them because the power of their brand). Fuel is getting very expensive. New trucks are extremely expensive.

So I am looking to get some more clarity from the guys who are really doing this for a living. Any advise would greatly be appreciated.

Some more info on me:

27 year old male (Extremely hard working with proven business expierence)
Married
Canadian living in the Toronto area
Interested in driving a 22 foot straight truck
Trying to decide between expedite or OTR trucking
Long term plan is to become a small fleet owner 5-10 trucks

Thanks for all the help!

I suggest you contact a O/O who goes by BroomPilot on here. He bought the best of everything and went to FedExCC. He can tell you of his experience.

It is my opinion that if you run as a team and you run for PII, FECC,TS you will do pretty well. When I ran teams with TS the miles were great. My solo career went down the toilet there.

I have run solo truck with E1 and have done pretty well with them. It seems as though something changed in the last four or five months. 1800 seems to be about all you can expect there. Maybe it was just my trucks but something happened.

It is a very nice business but I really think you need to get a lot of perspective from other folks like yourself and BroomPilot is one of the recent folks I know that can help you. I will be glad to tell you things to keep you out of trouble but I ask that you contact me directly. Folks on here have heard it all over the last few months atleast twice so I do not want to put them through it again.

Good Luck

In addition to Broompilot, you may want to PM RichM or Teryandrene as both have been with FedEx for a long while.

Yes, Terry & Rene, RichM and I think DaveKC will all be at MATS. Terry is in our EO booth this morning. Come on by #6327.
