I know you all have XM, I just got mine and what a year to have gotten it. My team DETROIT TIGERS is on fire the best team in baseball, lowest ERA, and the strongest infield defense in years. This is another reason why the ERA is so low but the pitching is outstanding.

Looking forward to seeing the Mets in the World Series, maybee they can do a little better than what St. Louis did last week, or Cinci or .......

This team really is that good, I could have never believed this in March. OK wrong Section to post this in but wheres the sports page anyway????

Oh great! This is what the area needs, another sporting event so we can spend money we don't have to cover up the filth and garbage of Detroit so everyone who travels here can get a good impression of an area in decline.

By the way, maybe some of you want to travel up here and pay homage to the origianl briggs stadium before they start ripping that down to build condos.

As bad as I sound, I hope they do well this year but the world series, I don't think that they will make it that far.

Actually Greg, for the first time we had the opportunity to deliver in Downtown Detroit. I didn't think Detroit had a place that looked so nice. However, it was a small area of a big city, but it did look good!

And Broom, good for you for supporting your team! We are Cub fans and know how much loyalty means! ;-)

Sorry, Broom... we don't ALL have xm. I'd have to say the NFL channel is on my Sirius about half the time. Great way to learn about the rest of the league.

Greg... I know you hate Michigan. But Detroit won't be totally clean til the ppl themselves take pride in what they own. I can't blame the area for wanting to spruce up downtown and give ppl in the burbs a reason to spend money in the city.

It's good to hear the Tigers are finally doing good. I think Ilich sees a reason to put money into them now that the Wings are headed for a downfall.

Oh really well you better look at the History of the Manager, Miami, Pittsburg the Manager is the best of the best and he has put together a team that was decent in its previous year considering how good its division was Chicago, Cleveland last year were no dog teams and niether was Minn. Since his arrivial this spring he shaprened the edges and brought in Pitching. As for the bet your on Doggy your Sox won 18 out of 21 and could not catch us when they were only a half a game down when that steak began.

Thats a team that finds anyway to win and thats just how they keep doing it make an error on this team in the 7th or later and they will eat your for lunch example, St. Louis, Cubs, Cinc, and Milwaukee all had us down in late innings and we took 3-4 or swept everyone of those teams.

If the ERA was not so low I would my doubts, but this is one of the strongest teams in years the # and % prove it. Yeah I am optomistic, based on the numbers teams in history that win like this this have always been in there in October, last year it was the Sox year before it was Red Sox they are both very good teams this year but the numbers support this team as being a great team, cannot argue with history. A betting man a good one always goes with the odds and history, I will bet anybody anything as $ is no object so long as it is not more than a dollar.

I grew up 5 miles from (Briggs) Tiger Stadium I loved them as a kid, Al Kaline, Mickey Lolach, Denny McClaine, Willie Horton. Every Saturday Home Day our local Parks and Rec H.S. students took us all down to the games such great memories as a kid. Now a law suites would never allow todays kids to have a such a good time. SAD I remember us in a VW Beetle craming about 7 of us in that car and ridding in the so called trunk behind the back seat in front of the rear window or engine, boy I had to be hot but as kid and chance to go to the game you could of strapped me to the bumper and that would have been fine by me.

Now hold on a minute broom,i'm an ohio boy through and through. It's been the cincinnatti reds when i was really young and lived in southern ohio and now that i live in the northern half it's the cleveland indians all the way since 1963. And even though they are playing kinda crappy this year they did manage to spank the yankees tuesday night 19-1.

Kaline, Lolich, Horton... Yeah buddy! Those were the days. I remember being in the bleachers listening to people yell "Hit the ball, Wille!" I had a paper route when they were in the '68 World Series. My Grandmothers friend let me come in and watch the last few innings of one of Lolichs wins. See was an artist and did an oil painting of him and gave it to me. She did it from a small black and white picture from the paper. The next season I took it to a game and he autographed it. I was bummed that I did'nt get to meet him. The guard took it into the locker room.

The Trammel, Whitiker days were cool too. The first game I took my oldest boy to was one of those awesome baseball moments. Tigers vs. Yankees. Bottom of the 9th. Tigers down by 3. Trammel batting. 2 outs. Full count. He LAUNCHES one! It's got the distance! OOOhhhh... just barely foul. Next pitch. He nails it again! Gone! Home run!!! The place goes wild. Billy Martin goes in the locker room and tips over the table of catered food.

Even with memories like that, I'm one of those that quit being a fan after the last big strike. Those over paid prima donnas have no reason to go on strike. I know they have a new manager, but I could'nt tell you his name. I'm sure I could'nt tell you the name of any starting players. A couple of years ago I know there was a lot of hoopla about someone called Pudge.

Well it's been 6 weeks since my original post on this thread, and i just wanted to say that i have rethought my comments concerning the "motor city kitties".As of today (august 16th)the tigers are firmly in first place 6 1/2 games up on the white sox and it doesn't appear like they are going to fold anytime soon. So broom, what kind of beer do you like? :7 :7 :7 :7   :7 :7 :7

Well, Detroit has a great manager in Jim Leyland. Just ask all the 1997 Cleveland fans. I Cleveland could have gotten him.

I must say I think the Tigers may just get to the WS. Heck, I reside in Indiana and pretty much have always liked the White Sox in the American League and have always been a Padres fan in the National.

Even though I would rather see the White Sox than the Tigers, anything but those ##### Yankees in OK with me.

And just think, if history repeats its self and the Tigers win the whole thing - those smart, solid sports fans of Detroit will burn half of the city down again.

GO PADRES!

PS- Predictions: Tigers over the Yankees for the AL title, Mets over the Diamondbacks for the NL (do not laugh - check how AZ plays against their own division and also the road record and that is what counts down the end)
World Series - Tigers over Mets - with the city of devils burning to the ground!!!!!!!!!

They were impressive last night, they really needed to beat a contending team to remind themselves they are that good. All the games of late they have lost 9-13 have all been close. Relief pitching has remained outstanding its the starters who have faltered. Sunday to have a 6-0 lead and loose 6-7 but it was close right down the last pitch men on 1-2 2 outs they just failed to take the opportunity and finish it.

But I believe they are good enough not to fold Sox did the same thing last year, but who ever is gona take this division is gona have to win 95-100 games and in this division with three teams right there its just that much more exciting to follow.

Looks like the Red Sox are folding, I hate that.

Good teams that are not contenders have really played good ball against Detroit and the pitching has been rock solid by these teams, pitchers who stunk against other teams really seem to have it toghether when playing the Tigers, this I hope will continue as it will help us in the playoffs. Hope I am hear to boast in Early October, but I told you all months ago this was a good team time will tell if its a great team.

Well it seems like the time has come to move this thread back up to the top again.

This excerpt taken from the september 12th edition of USA TODAY.

Aug.7,the tigers were 40 games above .500 and cruising with a 10 game lead in the AL Central. Now, they have lost 22 of 32,and their lead has shrunk to 1 1/2 games over the Minnesota Twins who beat the Oakland Athletics 9-4 on monday.

"Our biggest concern is winning some games,"Tigers GM Dave Dumbrowski said."We haven't played well, not like we are capable of playing."

The Tigers, trying to make the postseason for the first time since 1987,start a two-game home series tonight against the Texas Rangers before playing the Baltimore Orioles this weekend.

Detroit is winless in seven consecutive series after losing three of four in Minnesota last weekend.

The Tigers biggest problem is scoring runs.Since Aug.8,they've averaged 3.6 runs per game, last in the majors, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Also the Tigers' .247 team batting average since then is the second worst in theAL and fifth worse in the majors."If we don't play better,"Tigers manager Jim Leyland told reporters,"we'll get our (tails) kicked by everyone, plain and simply."

Looks like Detroit is going to have to dig deep to get through the final 3 weeks of the regular season.

The White Sox are fading, even if Detroit doesn't win the division they should be able to hang on for the wild card.
