The price of diesel is an outrage. It cost LESS then gas to refine. The only reason the industry doesn't protest like in the 70's is because the large companies don't pay the price at the pump like an O/O...again very sad for again small business person trying to make it today.

you as a truck owner and business owner are considered a small trucking company therefor that qualifies you to join N.A.S.T.C. [ nat'l association of small trucking companies ] which is tied to a decent fuel discount through fleetone, anyone can get a fleetone card and there are no fees for use. check it out nastc.com

How much does it cost to join N.A.S.T.C.? Their website won't allow you to join online which has me a little concerned.

not quite sure of the cost as we are members through our carrier but be assured there is nothing funny with them. they are a nationally recognized association involved in helping small trucking companies. they are rite there beside several other organizations fighting for our rights.

I went from a 1 ton dodge diesel pickup to a freightliner rhl185. The dodge got 9 mpg and dual 20 gallon tanks. The freightliner I got now has 1 60 gallon tank and gets 11 mpg under a full load. I mostly haul cars with an enclosed trailer or a flat trailer. I notice a difference in fuel mileage if I use the flat trailer. It gets the same as the dodge I use to own.

Its still bull crap that diesel is so friekin expensive.

Why not get a smaller truck? Do you use a straight truck or a regular semi? I know a few owner ops who went to freightliner m2s and haul more smaller loads.

One answer to the puzzle as why diesel costs more is the fact that under the new ULSD parameters, the diesel fuel produced here in the US now meets world standards for emissions .. and much of it is being exported to a higher profit market!

The "dirty" diesel of years gone by was not marketable anywhere but here.

I would like to see a comparison of cost per gallon to refine diesel vs gasoline.

I know that many localities, (Ca, Co, for example), demand their own special blends, for different seasons and altitudes.
