I have a question about a GMC Savana 2500 HD Cargo Van

What is the difference between a regular 2500 and a 2500 HD with towing package verses the full sized 3500 cargo van? I read that a 2500 HD was just as strong as the 3500. The van that i'm looking at is a GMC Savana G-2500 HD with 170 thousand miles on it, fully fleet maintained (all service records will be provided upon request) and it has the HD tow/haul pachage as well as the Full Size V8 6.0 liter engine. The van is 05 and has power everything along with chrome grille and a chrome back bumper. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Here is th van itself. '05 GMC Savana 2500 Cargo Van

Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh, I will repeat this again.....

If you can, get the biggest van you can find. This means get one that hauls as much weight (9660 GVW) and has the biggest cargo space (extended 159" WB van).

You can't go wrong and be happy that you have that capacity.

GMC made almost as many 3500s as they did 2500s.

its been a while, but if memory services me the HD 2500 with a std wheel base was rated at 8600 gvw..the extended wheel base and they did make an extend HD 2500 a few yrs ago and it was 8800 GVW....the small GVW 3500 is 9200 GVW and the HD 9660 in and extended body....both the HD 2500 and the 3500's have the 8 lug full floating axles but the spring rating is different....buy as big as you can get....no reason to go smaller and limit how much you can haul.....

I'll tell you what I know about them, Mine is a 03 GMC 2500 and my Friend has a 03 3500
Mine has just over 400,000 miles, His has just over 500,000 miles, I've replaced the ball joints, tie rods 3 rimes, he hasn't replaced the at all, I've rebuilt the Transmission Twice, He has rebuilt his once. I get 21mpg with a 5.3 he gets 17 mpg with a 6.0, I've replaced Brakes and rotors 3 times, he has replaced Brakes and Rotors once. for this kind of work, I should have gotten a 1 ton. and if I stay in a van the next one will be.
