I absoluetly HATE headlines like this ....

"7 dead after semi-truck slams into minivan in Ind."The story though says, "
Seven members of an extended family traveling from Chicago to New Jersey for a funeral, including a newborn and three other children, were killed when their minivan hit a deer and a semi-trailer struck them from behind, police said Friday.

But from the captions under the included photos ... it appears it was the truckers fault!

Then there is this .....

None of the minivan's 10 occupants were wearing seatbelts during the crash Thursday night about 10 miles east of South Bend, Smith said. Smith said the infant, a 6-week-old boy, was in a car seat but had not been buckled in.

From the AP photo file showing the crash ...

A photo released by the Indiana State Police shows firemen and police surveying the wreckage of a fatal accident on the Indiana Toll Road near Bristol, Ind. Thursday Oct. 27, 2011. A tractor-trailer slammed into the back of a minivan in northern Indiana killing at least seven people and sending four others to hospitals, authorities said. (AP Photo/Indiana State Police)

Lets play : "spin the revolving door" :(

"Sgt. Smith wanted to remind drivers to remain calm if facing a deer crash. He says do not try to change lanes or slam on the brakes. You should instead slow down gradually or just run over the deer, especially if it is small."

Not necessarily,
at this point the driver was relived from the hospital, and police say he is NOT being accused of nothing...just yet.
they are mainly looking at the van driver actions.
with some luck, the driver will walk free.

How in the hell do you get 10 people in a minivan when most will only hold 7?

I agree Greg, the driver of the mini van slowed down which caused the accident. This accident could have been prevented if the mini van driver had pulled over to the side of the road. My heart goes out the family's of the people that was killed.

Please don't get me wrong, but if anyone here slams on his brakes do you expect to be hit from the rear. No matter what you should never be hit hard in the rear when you either slow down or slam on the brakes.

Think about what I just wrote. people everywhere follow to close, both trucks and cars are to blame

I would like to see what the driver has to say. Did the van just finish passing and cut him off or did the van swerve and change lanes, these are certainly possibilities to consider.

The local paper here says witnesses reported the van had hit a deer and then either stopped in the lane or was stopping.
