HI everybody,

Just back in off my first week on the road, thought I would check in here. Had a very good week, ran a ton, made money. The owner I drive for is a GREAT help. I just cannot believe how much fun I had. The freedom from that daily grind and a really bad boss. Looking out the window as the truck passes all those places. Different every minute. Sleeping in the sleeper of a moving truck is quite an experiance too.
So is truck stop food.( not a good one either)

For all you new guys thinking about this, it is NOT pie in the sky. Yes you can earn good money, no, it is NOT easy. You will earn everything that you make. BUT, it will be yours. Your good attitude and work ethic will determine everything.

I know that a week does not a career make but I know that I really like this work. Thanks to all here who helped me get started. Joe, now on the road.

Yep, so far I like it alot. I will enjoy it more when the wife goes out to drive with me, that is the next step. I did have what I thought was a good week. The owner of the truck said it was only so-so and that I would see better weeks. I am really looking forward to getting back out there.

I kind of like the idea that I will make more the harder I work. That is SOOOOOOOOO different than most everything I have done in the past. When you work for "The Man" he decides what you are worth and hard work and extra effort rarely pay off. Not so here. I do know that there will be slow weeks, but, for the most part you only have yourself to blame if you don't make it. The basics are simple:
step one: run hard, make money
step two: repeat step one

Watch the business/acounting side and all will be right with the world. Out there Joe. (some say way out there)

Congratulations on a good start. You summed things up well. As to the food situation, if you think the week was good and you ate in the truckstops for the week just wait until you have a refrigerator or at least a 12 volt cooler and eat more do it yourself meals than bought meals. The difference in cash in your pocket at the end of the week will amaze you.

We have a frig in the sleeper, cooking stuff too. The guy that owns the truck wanted me to "experiance" truck stop food one night. A very mean thing to do to a newbie!!! Joe
