I-5 Accident

I don’t know if you all missed this or are afraid of commenting on stuff like this because of the recent rash of threads that were misinterpreted (and disappeared for some reason) but you know on I-5 there was a major accident with three killed, one kid and two adults.

It is sad that we have to deal with this in our profession, it was bad enough to hear that someone was killed trying to hide in a truck but it is important that we continue to be diligent in the safe operation of our vans and trucks at all times.

This also illustrates the need to be more consciences about the road conditions and keeping the vehicle under control in bad weather. This happened when it was raining and even though many of us are used to the rain, rain in the LA basin is not common and they are not used to it at all and this is considered bad weather to them.

I am assuming this happened where the truck bypass is on I 5 as you come down into the valley, where I have driven that area a bunch of time and it makes me really nervous when cars follow the trucks off and pass them to get back on the freeway, not to mention the trucks that can’t slow down because they only know how to drive fast.

Greg,
Yes that's exactly where it was. It started with 2 trucks colliding inside the tunnel, and by the time it was over, 28 trucks, and 1 personal vehicle were involved. It's amazing that only 3 people were killed, and 10 injured. Fox had video, and it just looked like a warzone or something.

We came through before it happened (1 day) :) and 1 thing about this that bothers me is in Calif you never really know (or at least a majority of drivers) which channel to listen to on your CB.
I don't believe the damage count would have been so high had this happened on the east coast or at least where the norm is to turn to channel 19.
We always tune in while driving in major metro areas on the interstate for that reason.
Here are a few more pics from that fire

Let's see. You've got channel 19 , 17 ,15 and then you have the mex channel( 7 ), the raghead channel, the christian channel, the gay boys channel, etc. I think you would need a scanner to help you find people and warn them of their pending doom. I prefer the xm channel and let all them I 5 racers do their thing..Sorry to see the deaths and injuriers, but the way they drive, I am surprised it is not a daily occurence out there.
