A rolling protest is in progress this Saturday morning on Ontario, on Hwy 402 eastbound between Sarnia and London. Traffic is being routed off the freeway by police.

The rally is sponsored by people opposed to wind turbines being placed in Ontario against the wishes of the locals. Story here.

Diane and I saw this as we were westbound. Hundreds of cars, trucks and farm tractors were marked with signs, banners and displays, and were driving slowly in the right lane. In an interesting maneuver, the police closed the freeway and routed everyone but marked protest vehicles off the road. For about a 30 mile stretch, we saw no eastbound traffic except for a couple of police cars alone and the group of protesters.

We do not know if this is the police working with the protesters to keep everyone safe, or if it was the police setting up to corral the protesters to cite every one of them.

Whatever it is, if you plan to head east on Hwy 402 today, you may be rerouted and delayed.

Some people just can't be happy. They wanted green power. Wind turbines are about as green as it gets, and they don't want them. We had a similar problem-- only they didn't take to the roads-- in De Kalb County just West of me a few years back. A company wanted to put in wind turbines, many locals didn't want them. The turbines are in now, and-- as I understand it, the company leases the land the turbines are on from the farmers. If you're getting paid because one of these is mounted on your land-- you like them. If you're on a property which DOESN'T have a turbine on it, you hate them. That seems to be the way it works in De Kalb, anyway.
