They've already allowed the statute of limitations to expire on the Burisma money charges, which were the most serious and most likely to lead back to Joe. The sweetheart deal first offered by Weiss was shot down by the judge in Delaware, otherwise Hunter would've been absolved of everything he's ever done - past, present and future. These latest charges also give him an excuse to dodge the closed Congressional hearings by taking the 5th since he's under indictment for charges that could be related to their inquiry.
