There is a huge BOOM in PA right now, going after those gas deposits. They are having problems finding skilled labor there now. Those deposits cover a lot of land in PA. Remember that the world's first commercial oil well was drilled in Titusville, PA. They started "fracking" those wells back then. Edwin Drake drilled it.

On a side note. Imagine, if you can, what history might have looked like if the wells that John Wilkes Booth invested in during that first oil boom had come in instead of coming up dry.

By the way, they called it "shooting a well" back then.

Is the labor issue because of the technology? Are they going after the stuff under Pitt.? I have some friends that live in Glassport, they had a natural gas well in their back yard. That was in the early 60's. Don't know how it is now.

No, the labor issue is due to lack of skilled trained people. I have a friend that lives in Oil City. He has been out of work more than in work most of his adult life. He went to ITT Tech to learn welding. He was hired before he graduated. They need pipe fitters, welders, etc. Truck drivers too.

They are going after gas all over the area. There are wells and pipe lines all over PA now. They have been going after it for a long time now. The new find just intensified it.
