I am considering possibly getting back into expediting. I left in December and still can't land a "real" job. Who is running good out there that ISN'T with Panther, Express-1, or FedEx??

You can look around and see how many people are still posting from the time you left in December. Some are still doing very well and some are making ends meet the same as it was in December.

We are moving into a time of the year where we are normally busy and freight does seem to have picking up. July is a month when freight is typically slow so once again we might have an unwanted break.

As always luck of the draw and where you position yourself plays a role in the loads you haul.

Another year at this rate and we will really see the separation....of the part-timer wanna bees and the ones serious about this business...it has started already....
It is harder to get onto the biz the way loans are harder to get and less and less have the money to throw out 5,000 bucks on a so-so van and get started....and worse yet for the straights....

I've met some nice people that have gone bye byes...on the business side....good to see them go...even though that sounds harsh/selfish thats business...I am sure no one will shed a tear if I go neither. :D

Nearly all the veterans in here say there is too many units...the herd has to be thinned...too many units to support the business levels....Just what are they saying? The same as I did above....only more P/C and eloquent.

If you are a fish out of water and 5 feet from the river bank and it is an uphill roll...we will just call you Flounder and say good bye.

Would coming back be better than no job at all, maybe. Would it be better than taking a $8.00 or $10.00 an hour job in the regular world, maybe not. That is a question a person would need to answer for themselves.

Exactly...we advise...since they asked, but the ultimate answer is ones own personal choice.

I'd suggest there are plenty of folks in this business that can't or don't wanna land a "real job" (read can't or don't wanna work). I've observed them for years in this biz(OVM, are YOU tell'in em bout that pot of gold????) I'd also suggest IF you reaallly, reaallly wanna git out and find a "real job" in this biz, you may wanna consider how many seats you are cheating yourself out of with your "don't wanna" shortlist above. But, the facts are, in my long time in this world, i've not observed any "real jobs" work'in for the man.

Did I even suggest a pot of gold? I am slipping....

As some states are coming out with some crazy things I see some are saying NO Minnesota and then there is the No California bunch and the NO NY group...whats left to make money?...pickins will be slim....good luck....

It may depend on where Kg2149 lives. In Cambridge Maryland. A city with unemployment over 11%. When a local employer held a two day "Job Fair" to work in a plant removing Blue Crab meat from the said Crab. Seven persons were hired. No one wanted to do the menial labor involved.:D

I personally don't want that mentality out here....Because if they think this an an easy gig and are to be successful they are in for a rude awakening....

Personally I wouldn't give a hoot...I would want aggressive O/O's ones that know the score....I'd pay them a bit more because they'd be hauling more of my freight....I could book loads knowing my operators are going to accept it and we'd work from there.....none of this pansy antsy crap!!

It's getting ugly in here. The one reason I have stayed in it through all of this is there are really not that many decent, if any, paying jobs out there. So I understand where he is coming from. And as far as not wanting for any of the co's he listed,Maybe it's about the amount of deductions/fees they take out of a check each pay period. Or just a policy issue. To each is own.I prefer smaller co's myself.Alot less B.S.

Or maybe he has a van and none of those companies are putting on new vans?

Good luck with *that* one! I think the interests of the two entities are inherently at odds, at least part of the time.

The extra costs that are sometimes incurred on a refused load the savings would be in the rate....each load settlement would be accompanied with a copy of the actual billing. Upfront, in your face and very personal....with rates you could live with.
