I'm not trying to be a douche bag but I will be direct with my questions and advice / comments.
My first question is, are you leagaly registered with F.M.C.S.A. Are you properly insured and bonded?
How much are you paying, and what are your payment terms?
Also, what kind of condition is your equipment in?
How is your F.M.C.S.A. safety record when it comes to drivers, equipment, and compliance?
How is your personal and business credit.
How is your over all reputation as a business and as a person, and last for now, how do you treat your drivers.
These are the biggest factors when hiring drivers.
It's like this.
If your not legally registered start with that.
If you want quality drivers you need to pay them well and in a timely fashion, and not play games with getting them paid and treat them with coutousey and respect. The equipment needs to be in top shape. low pay, rolling garbage, a high safety score that guarantees a driver and the truck will be scrutinized at every inspection station, and if your personal and business reputation is poor and not respecting your help, will only result in low and poor quality drivers.
A real experienced, and professional driver will do a background check on you. They know how how much they're worth several years and thousands of miles of safe driving, and knowledge of the regs, and how to do the job deserves decent pay. Anexperianced driver knows a bad driver / carrier score or working for a carrier with a bad scoure or who has been shut down after a D.O.T. audit will make them unemployable. The rest should be self explainitory.
Bottom line, you get what you pay for.
I vett all my carriers I work with. When some carrier calls me for availability, I do a complete back ground check on them. At the minimum I confirm thief authority bond, and insurances. Then I check thier C.S.A. Record, then I check the business credit rating.
If they don't pass my background check, I say no thanks, If I get dis respected I tell them to ****off.
Good luck.
