In much of Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico, nothing has changed. IMHO

There are many places whereby if one removes the modern scars on the landscape (in your mind)....it does paint a pretty nice picture. Just the other day I witnessed a Red Tailed Hawk swooping down from a tree to catch prey in small valley below.

The backdrop held no concrete, no power lines, and not a hint of modern structure. A thing of beauty for sure. Sometimes wonder if anyone else on the road noticed. Probably not.
