How should I call this, sabotage or discrimination?

Moot, pushing me to get rid of two good drivers in such a short time, while they stole another driver from my fleet, how do you call that?

Poaching is what I would call it if that is what happened, and altho shady, not illegal...again this is all based on your side of the story being true...not saying it isnt.

I don't get it.....The drivers are NOT company drivers on the payroll...why would the drivers leave you? They are not required to go anywhere....IF the drivers were happy with you..why would they leave..they tell the carrier to hump it....

Lack of information. You can't make bricks without clay.

Judging from what there is though-- Opel, it's way past time you move on from that carrier. If they're doing like you say, cut your losses and move your fleet to another outfit.

I certainly hope you found out why the drivers left, and why the carrier facilitated or possibly recommended the do so. It could be due to misperceptions or misunderstandings that you can avert in the future, dismiss them as aberrations, or as something over which you need to take a hard look in the mirror. Whatever the case, you don't want it to happen again.

Turtle, I guess you misunderstood the whole story... one driver was asked by the recruiter to move to a different fleet owner. Then the carrier asked me to get rid of two other drivers. One of them I had to let him go, since anyway he was making his money, while my whole profit was going to different auto shops, and the other driver I moved him along with my truck to another carrier.

and why the carrier facilitated or possibly recommended the do so.

Why?!? Good question... probably because we live in a corrupt world, where honesty is no longer accepted...

If my fleet owner treated me really really good, and I really really liked him, nobody could make me move.
If you really really liked him and stayed because of that, then is that a good basis for making a business decision.
For example, if was to forgo my O/O status and went back to driving for a fleet owner, I do really really like the last Fleet owner I drove for before getting my own truck. However, even though he pays 5% higher than Expediter Services, he cannot get me the same discounts and can't get me access to the Carriers data base of load activities that ES can.. I would rate them both as 10s in taking care of their drivers but ES has a significant advantage in the areas that matter the most.

Money is a huge part of really really liking a fleet owner.

My point was that there was something there that opel's driver did not like and he jumped ship when the opportunity knocked.

Also, we are talking about vans here, not straights or tractors. There is little money in a van load to begin with, now you have to split it with the fleet owner. The result? Unhappy drivers.

Ditto the money. As to too $s in vans? I still can't understand why a Taxis get much more per mile than vans or even straight trucks. Not sure what the drivers get, but nowadays you gotta be rich or on welfare to afford a taxi.

On your point, if Opel comes too understand what it actually was (factually), good bad or ugly... I hope its shared on this forum.

.

For one thing, the driver was a newbie in expediting. Young, inexperienced. At first I thought that's the reason they give him short runs with plenty of time for p/u and delivery. And that's what they did for the next two weeks. Then they "relocated" him to the other fleet owner, and as he told me, he was busy as hell with the new truck.

Did I miss the why they relocated him to the new fleet owner?

Why would a carrier even make such a suggestion?

Taxis you need to be qualified and checked out...and a special licence....not like a cargo van that they can be completely unqualified....

my drivers had a choice back i the 80's we are talking about....60/40 was the norm but the experienced ones paid me $40.00 per shift they paid the fuel for M-W 50 bucks Thurs. and 100.00 for Fri and Sat...
insurance to have a driver in it...was $8100 a year! in the 80's!!!

now back to topic.....:p

That's the kind of statement I would expect from someone that called the carrier, cursed them out, and then threatened to mow everyone down with an uzi. Were you having any issues at all with your carrier that you were discussing with them before this happened?

However, if I really, really liked the owner, but the company was just giving me crap miles/rates, I'd be asking the owner to move to a different carrier.

This is the kind of statement I would expect an intelligent person to refrain from posting. Are you accusing Opel2010 of having done that? If so, how do you know about it?

In my experience I am thinking there is this invisible line between management and dispatch.......dispatch gets an issue with a certain operator and they talk between them and either unconciously or deliberate...bad things start happening especially in a small office scenerio.....your passed over accidently....they didn't see your location....someone hits the OOS que....some of the worst loads of mankind are offered you....and so forth..you piss off dispatch in general you might as well just pack your packs and stop wasting your time...IMO

It has been brought to my attention that my statement [directed to Paullud] could be taken to mean Paullud is not intelligent. I would like to say that isn't what I meant - to the contrary. I believe he is intelligent, which is why his statement was not what I'd expect him to post. I quote:
"That's the kind of statement I'd expect from someone who called the carrier, cursed them out, and then threatened to mow everyone down with an Uzi" That sounds to me like an insinuation that the person addressed did just that. Maybe I'm overreacting, but that sounds fairly serious to me.
Could be it's pretty common in dispatcher world, I dunno. [Would explain the bulletproof Plexiglass I've seen in some places]
