Three times a day (15 times a week)

Once a day (7 times a week)

Five times a week

Lets classify getting a coffee & bagel or donut for breakfast as eating out.

I'm just curious as to how often you eat out compared to how often you make your own meals. I find that I need to eat something not from the grocery store at least once a day, whether it be something as simple as a pop from the fountain instead of a can that I bought.

I'll make the poll private so you don't need to worry about being judged and can vote accurately with all the slob talk around here today.

it all depends..i keep enough food it the truck for all 3 meals in the truck for 7-10 days, but that never happens..factor in weekends, I can eat out 12-15 times a week easy....i ate out 6 times this sat and sunday....and never touched the food in the frig...

I voted 10, should have been 12 min...

When I was in the s/t, based on 21 meals a week, about half of the time.

In the van, always. I chose not to have a fridge or microwave because of the accessibility.

I don't know how in the world I came up with 15 as 3 times a day X 7 days a week.
Well, Hobbits eat Breakfast, Second Breakfast, Elevensies, Luncheon, Afternoon Tea, Dinner, and Supper. At least 6 times a day when they can get it. So, the Hobbits among us (mostly in cargo vans) may be eating out as many as 42 times a week. Maybe you were fresh off a LOTR viewing and got the math confused?

on a good week, not at all. on a bad week maybe three times and usually breakfast. just so much cheaper and healthier to eat in the truck. all food in the truck is home cooked, no freezer meals or prepared items. salt in all those are outta site. we can carry a months worth of food and being a team its pretty easy to manage to cook for each other. sure, we eat out when we meet up with friends or on a special occasion but other than that we pretty much stick to cooking for ourselves.

I could easily eat out every meal, especially on a weekend when I am not running and just sitting...thats ballgame, racin or any other kind of entertainment time, and that most always includes eating out at whereever I am ...

During the week, I'll eat the food i cook in the truck if I am not driving...but then again, sometimes i just feel like sitting with people and b/s'ing and eating...like last night, pizza and good conversation....

That is a lot of food to keep in your cargo max. At home, I don't even keep that much food. But I like to shop almost daily when I'm at home, or for the next 2-3 days max. I like to shop for what I'm craving.

We eat out most meals, but at the same time, one meal from a restaurant provides us with two to three meals. Example, we went to Olive Garden for lunch the other day. You get salad and breadsticks, we ordered an appetizer, I got ravioli, Nick got Lasagna, and we each got dessert. We ate it for dinner than night, and lunch the next day. So the meal that cost us $50 with tip in turn made three meals so that comes out to $8.30 per person for 6 meals. (3 each) It was much better food than a burger and fries and not too much more. Or we go to Applebees/Chilis and do the 2 for $20, that makes 2 meals each as well. Plus you get the unlimited chips and salsa and you get extra to go and have a snack. We find a lot of times its cheaper for us to eat out than buy groceries and ice. We dont have a fridge and microwave because of the extra weight of those items plus needing the extra batteries to power them.

None. Bought sandwich fixings every 2 days at WalMart and kept in a small cooler. Ice for the cooler: free at truckstops, just poured into double ziploc bags. The cooler is one of those mini Igloos, fits into the step well of the van's side door, takes up no cargo space and the weight is negligible.

With snacks and the like, we spent approximately $25 a week on food (that amount includes my morning coffees).

I spend approximately 20 dollars a day average on food a week when I'm on the road. That includes my daily coffee, 5 hour energy drinks, and good food. If I'm gonna live like a dog on the road, I sure as heck ain't gonna eat like one. I could save an extra hundred dollars a week by not eating good food, but then I can die without ever having had my fill of steaks, pizza, and truckstop buffets!

In my opinion this job should pay you enough to enjoy a pretty comfortable Per Diem and still be able to put money into the bank. I've lived off of hotdogs and bologna sandwiches and bush baked beans all heated in tin foil off the engine. But I just can't live like that anyone. When it gets to the point where you have to eat like Lisaloohoo and crew, it's time to check yourself into a nice prison and get you some good eats.

When convicts are eating better food than the working man, there's something really wrong with that. I was not bashing you Lisa, just stating that I've been there and that I can't do it anymore. Remember the great words of, Andrew Zimmerman "if it looks good; eat it!"

You erroneously jump to the conclusion that we HAVE to eat that way.

He has done this since he started expediting in late '02. When we got together, he told me about it, and it made sense. I wondered how he was in such great shape being in an industry that can be quite sedentary and food filled.

We WANT to eat that way. Several reasons, but most of all it's healthier and gave him not only more money in the bank but afforded OOS time when we got somewhere worth looking into. Namely Cedar Point, Everglades, Key West, Miami, Orange Beach beachfront condo in February for Valentine's Day.

We can also control what we put in our bodies. We can control fat intake, calorie count, sodium. Sure there's preservatives, those can't be avoided. Lots of fruit, fresh and dried, is an inexpensive and healthy snack.

We did it by choice.

He's continuing his road food tradition in the semi. Because he wants to. It works for him.
