How much info is legal?

How much info can a carrier give legally? As a former employer I was only able to verify employment. Just wondering if it is any different in the o/o world. Specifically I'm interested in insurance claims for non-ticketed accidents. Of course, I'll take all the info I can get.

Ditto Caffee's reply. I worked at a trucking company and did the employment verifications and entered info on DAC. I was only allowed to confirm employment/length, preventable accidents, and failed or refused drug and alcohol tests.

I recall I was also told to put down whether the person had damaged or abandoned equipment, but I now wonder if that opened the company up to lawsuits...

Coco;

Review the Disclosure and Release document that you signed for the (prospective) employer or carrier in question. That document will stipulate what items you authorized them to obtain.

Typically employers and carriers are not obtaining Insurance Loss-runs on individuals.
