B-unit, solo. I'm at 39k and change at the end of the 3rd quarter. I'll probably be in the low 50s for my 2nd worse year, the worst being my 1st year. I put a lot of value on my love of the lifestyle, but...

That's gross. When I started, 12/98, I was told 70-75k was resonable for someone that wants to work. Recruiters...

Heck, Broom just go to work for Swift and you can make over 1 million a year. Just ask Robert Goar. He won the thanks a million driver appreciation contest this year. Who would of thought it at Swift. I don't have the link but just Google "Swift driver wins one million"

My question is, would you take the money and run or would you show yer "appreciation" and stay on with them?

This is my first year in expediting. I'm an independent and I drive a Grand Caravan mini van and average $7,000 a month so I should hit 85K gross this year. My expenses are pretty low so I'm very pleased with this work. Considering I drive a mini van I consider myself pretty fortunate to get all the work I get. I only work with one trucking company... great people... and I show my appreciation in many ways! Plus... I NEVER turn down a job from them!

I drive about 10,000 miles a month and 95% of the time I deadhead home but I'm looking to develop contacts in the main cities I deliver to most often. If I work at that I think I can hit 100K gross next year.

I'm planning on buying a small pop up trailer so next spring and summer I'll carry it along when I'm heading to an interesting destination and I'll spend a day or so enjoying the local culture and maybe get a run back towards home while I'm waiting!

This is my first post but I've enjoyed reading the forums for a year! I attended the Mid American Show in Kentucky last spring and really enjoyed it and the EO workshops. Thanks.

Hello Bill,

I own a mini-van, and am thinking of getting into the expediting business. However, from what I've heard competition in vans is keen....and I've heard nothing about mini-vans.

Any information that you could give me would be helpful.

I live in Nashville, TN.

Robert;)

Jack, I would continue on whata gona do spend it all? Serious I enjoy working and working hard when I do work. Another reason I do not play the lotto I would probably win and have to make that decision.... Until than I can get by.

It is a lot easier to reply to this question when you first post your numbers for your 1099 for 2006. Also are you reevaluating your station in life? It seems very odd when someone asks a question like this without first giving their own answer as an example.
