How many expedite trucks/cargo vans have you owned?

I had a conversation the other day with a single unit owner operator and we were talking about how many trucks he has owned over the years.

How many have you owned over the years?

Since I'm still relatively new in this business, just two so far, and they're both still running. I have the Sprinter that I drive and I have a straight that my mother and brother are teaming in. All the other units I run are owner operators.

I've had two vans thus far. One is now retired. Then a small straight daycab and a large straight. 4 total.

2...a Dodge 3/4T with a 1T upgrade with over 1/2 mill on it at home still runs and now this sprinter...

Since 1996, I've had 3 cargo vans, 2 with Roberts/FedEx and 1 with Con-Way Now/Panther, all were Chevy one ton extended van with 6 liter V8s, good trucks all.

3 straight trucks in 8 years.

a 2000 FL 70 put 146k miles on it.

a 2003 IH put 471k miles on it

a 2007 FL M2 put 360k miles on it to date.

The last 2 were a direct result of attending the EO expos and seeing the dealers showing off the new toys.

How did you like the IH?

Diane and I have been in the business nearly seven years and have owned one truck. We drove fleet owner trucks for the first three years and our own truck since then.

We bought our truck new in 2006 and will turn over 500,000 miles on the odometer tomorrow. We plan to get a million miles out of this truck and hope for 1.5 million. That's the idea: Ten years or more, one truck.

Started expediting 12/98 with a '99 E350 Alumibunk, replaced that 3/07 with an M2 106, Bentz bunk.

Started in April 2009 with a used 2007 Hino 268 with 146K on the clock and it now has 225K, probably will be out of this truck by the year end and in a International, working on getting my class B
Next truck will have an air ride seat and air ride rear suspension, I'm getting to old to be bouncing around :O)

One used 99 FL70 that I owened for 2 1/2 years and a new 2005 Sprinter that I owned for 3 1/2 years. Currently truckless and chained to a post in the yard to keep me home.

How did you like the IH?

It was a rolling piece of crap Greg. We had so many problems with it that it seems as if every part on the truck was replaced at least once,and a few of them several times.
