Ok Leo...Canadian slang I guess...*L* A Pre-Trip inspection for those so inclined...

Same as a big truck...fluids/ tires/ leaks...lights working and so forth....

IE: when you run 400 miles and you have a pit stop, do you walk around the van and put your hand near hubs feeling for excessive heat build up?

I figured it was probably a PTI but wasn't sure if it was some of that secret vanners stuff I haven't learned yet.

Lights and fluid levels daily, tire pressures whenever a dispatched load is over 2000 lbs (before loading) I check the FT hubs for excessive heat everytime i get gas. Brakes inspection each time the oil is changed.

I even have a windsheild sqeeze that I put between the seat and brake so I can run to the rear and see if my brake lights are working........stop to get fuel and go around each rim,the tire to check for any extra heat and everybody looks at me like I'm crazy.
All I can say is this is my van and I go the extra mile for my safety and all that's around me.

I can relate..I get some asking me why i do what I do...then with a simple explaination they agree it makes sense...
Proactive towards safety and unwanted untimely breakdowns..

I don't check the van as by-the-book methodically as when I was in a big truck, but I'm still checking the general state of things each time I fuel. Other than belts, any impending failures I've found have been when looking at the vehicle from a far, like when returning to the vehicle. My computer also alerts me to things like coolant, oil, and tire pressure.

I love that feature. There is a lot of construction etc. going on in town. I was driving through and scrolled to the tire pressure screen. It showed one rear tire at 68. I went straight to the tire shop and before it even got low enough for me to get a warning message had a nail removed and tire repaired. I wouldn't have noticed it until it got lower than that, if I was even out of the van by then, or the low air warning sounded. I frequently scroll through all the info screens to check things. I love that feature.

I just went through the opposite. Found a nail on my visual inspection while fueling, but it really looked like the nail was only in the tread, but I really didn't want to pull it until I was at a safer location to be giving myself a flat. The computer let me keep track of my pressure until I was at a place I didn't mind being stranded.

I do a "walk around" while fueling. Engine off check the belt....<had to replace it yesterday, split after 135,000 miles> A lot better than it use to be. Replaced it after every 10,000 miles. Replaced the turb o res with the new design for the sprinter. It was leaking on the back side, outlet, not where it norm fails. Thinking about replacing the upper intake hose fitting with the new disign as well.... Replaced the 90 amp alternator with a 150 amp. After replacing the front wheel bearing, noticed a large flat spot on the right tire....Ended up replacing two tires after 165,000 miles. Get the other two next month. While I'm stopped I can look back to the rear and hit the brake and see if the lights work. Bought a scanner to read and reset the codes. Took a load this last week for around 450 miles and went into "Limp home mode" after 200 miles, Code was P0299 turbo under boost...hummm, another hose with a hole? Nope. Took to dealer and sure enough they coudn't find anything wrong. Ok now what? Removed the K&N air filter and cleaned it, went on a 60 mile test drive and no limp home mode happened.

Well in short, Yes I do a walke around, maybe I shouldn't...LOL
