how many animals have you struck with a vehicle?

Over the years, I have accidently hit the following animals with my car/truck: dogs, cats, deer, snakes, frogs, turtles, fox, opossum, birds, chickens (sorry Dad), rabbits, skunks, bats, squirrels, lizards, raccoons. Add to that, I have slain maybe 100,000 bugs which met their doom on my windshield.

Most of these encounters happened in my teenage years in the mountains of eastern Kentucky. None of these animal mishaps actually caused any damage to my vehicle. The deer strike resulted in a quick trip to the carwash for obvious reasons. I learned early on, never swerve or leave the road to avoid hitting an animal. Even better, never leave the lane of traffic you're in.

With my work van I only 'murdered' bugs, lots of them. (knock on wood) But with my cars, from opossums to rabbits, to squirels, and the worst was a deer. When I saw him, only thing I could do was to duck behind the steering wheel to protect myself if it went through the windshield. Hit the hood and then rolled over windshield. Did a lot of damage to my car.

We had a young woman get killed here, locally, about a year ago when a deer came through her windshield. The deer continue to be a problem.

I have hit several animals and some have brought me to tears at how hard that animal tried to get out of my way. It makes me sick to my stomach to hit any animal but it would make me even sicker to my stomach to roll our truck. So I grit my teeth hold to my line and do what needs to be done.

When a darn snake is in the road I have to raise my feet in the air and it is an involuntary reaction. But I have never intentionally tried to hit anything.
Now bugs for some reason do not seem to bother me.

Two months after I got my drivers license I hit a cat and I cried all the way home. (I'm a cat lover) I once ran over a big fat bunny in my car that left it rolling down the highway behind me. Poor Thumper. On the drive from Alaska back to Michigan many years ago I ran over a big skunk. That animal put indentations into the side of the tire with his claws and the smell was gawd-awful for days! That was in a car also.

I almost hit a skunk with the truck not too long ago, but it managed to run out of the way just in time thank goodness. So far that is all that I have encountered and I hope it stays that way. :)

Fan mail from some flounder? Here's a view from the front. The moose tore the roof back.

Let's see... 3 deer, 6 raccoons, 3 skunks, and a cat (in front of its owner) as well as 2 humans. Well that's what I recall off hand. Barely missed... 2 moose, numerous other deer, other small animals and 2 bears. You think deer or moose are scary when you come upon them, well think about a fully grown brown bear. They are lower to the ground and a lot thicker.

Let's see, never hit any animals with the truck. Lots and lots of bugs. Now with my car let's see, have totalled 3 cars so far, thank goodness it's considered 'no fault' accidents. I hit several birds, 2 pheasant, a couple rabbits, some weird looking animal in Nebraska, I don't know what it was. A huge barn owl, 2 deer, a cow, and the one my hubby like the most a skunk. Was headed out to work one summer morning, had all the windows down enjoying the breeze, back road in Kansas, when I hit a skunk, oh my, it was baaaadddd! lol So I took the car back home and took my hubby's truck, left the car for my hubby to take to work that day. :D

I hit a deer while under load on U.S. 33 in Meigs county Ohio one night. The best one though was about 15 years ago I was barreling up I-271 around the east side of Clevelend in my old 1978 Cadillac Fleetwood. It was raining and visability wasn't good. I hit 2 deer at once, the hoof of one coming through the windsheld, nearly missing my face. Awesome!

I was traveling home from work late one night, was around midnight, it was a really dark back road in Kansas, (same one I hit the skunk on about 50 miles of nothing highway) it had been raining, no stars or moon out that night. Had stopped by Sonic on the way home to pick up a burger as it had been a really long day and I was hungry, anyway I'm traveling down this dark highway in my little Geo Metro (got awesome gas mileage) at between 65 maybe 70 miles an hour, speed limit. I was happily eating my burger and thinking about the nice hot bath I was going to have when I got home, suddenly BAM! I hit a cow, came through the windshield and hit me square in the face and chest. 1 fatality (the cow). Needless to say I don't remember the impact. Luckily a police car was coming toward me at the time of the accident. Some one had reported a herd of cows in the highway and he had been dispatched to find them, I found them a few seconds before he did. OUCH! :D

Lets see here. I have hit one deer and had one run into me while I was stopped. I ran down 1 rattlesnake, 1 porkupine, a group of raccoons, a few small birds, a groundhog, a phesant, and a few unidentified critters that went by too fast to recognise.
