How I saved a Bundle.........

I have been a member of this community for almost a year. I have been expediting a little longer. I am not Real computer literate but can get around. I look things up online and search this site while I am at home, which is one reason I do not get on here much. I have had lap tops and have had my current one for about 4 years. I never had an urge to get online while on the road. Recentily I needed to get Online BAD. I have always brought the lap top with me just no wireless card. So I purchased a wireless deal and I have saved a Bundle. I dont find my self in the truck stop spending money during down time. I have learned more about this Business from researching this business online. Anyway I will be on and Post more and hopefully learn more and teach a little. MY POINT, if you are looking at this site and are at home like I did, spend the few dollars you will save money it will keep you busy..........Thanks

Boy if you didn't say a mouthful! You are so right about what you have said. We work in a field that changes often and as business owners we have to stay in the know. I have often wondered how anyone has time to stay in the truck stop for hours and play games.

GREAT POST

I sit within 2 miles of 2 truckstops and a Super Wal Mart frequented by expediters. If one is parked close by the cars, or I see them walking in, I make a point to stop and chat, see how things are going, offer a FREE EO BUMPER STICKER :+ or something.

It amazes me how many expediters I talk to who NEVER went online to check out their business before they started. I'm not talking old timers either. Of course I recommend EO, but they've never checked out ANY trucking/expediting site...

I can't count the times I've gotten a blank stare, and the comment "I never thought of that.. boy, sure would have saved me a bunch of trouble."

You would think, in this day and age, with the huge amount of info availible, one would investigate ANY new career they intended to invest a lot of cash in. Instead, I have talked to several, who.. after talking to 'a buddy who did good' or a 'couple guys at a truck stop' bought a new van, or new truck and made the leap.

Yes, back in 'the old days', when many of us started, that's how it was done... but now???? It amazes me to hear someone do that. And usually, they regret not researching it further. They're either with the wrong company, wrong size unit, not enough truck, too much truck, etc.

Good point Swifty... in my opinion a laptop is as much a necessity to running your business as a cell phone nowadays.

Long gone are the days of carrying a Qualcomm pager and running to your truck because the french fry machine at Burger King beeped.

I've also run into a large number of drivers that are not online. They found out through a buddy (about the bus.) and got into it.

Many here do not research at all, just make the leap. I've mentioned EO to several and none had a clue that this community existed.

Actually met several lately that are not even running the business on any computer. Just adding things up on paper the old way.

Things are changing and soon most will be online, but I see a more diverse and more specific online communities coming.
