How do these guys make $?

I just listened to an advertisement for a very large carrier. Regarding buying one of the used Freightliners 03-04-05 models, I guess the prices would proabably range between high 30s all the way to maybee mid 70s?

Throw in a lease payment, insurance and everything else, this is what the pay scale was for an O/O .84 for I believe all miles, their industry is known for 5% or less DH. .03 for some kinda bonus, and .17 for FSC. I realize these companies run hard everyday, but you do the math if an O/O was able to run 2,800 a week.

I just do not see how they are making any real $, than add in an emergency breakdown, or a family illness. They seem to prey upon drivers who have no savings at all as the add also talked about 0 down or very little down.

Well i've had friends do the same thing with company's like SWIFT,J.B.Hunt and other big company's,They will run hard just to make $400-$600 a week bring home and thinking that was big money. Also at the end of the lease or lease purchase they still owe $25,000 plus after the truck 3-4 years and now its about wore out.I think this program is for the big company's and the dealers to move used trucks when no one else wants them.

I've heard these deals referred to as "Fleece/Purchase". It looks so rosy when you look at the ads that appear in the truck stop mags. I'm betting the reality smells quite different!

It really depends on the company and the lease you sign up for. Also if your a team or not. I know some compaines cap fuel at say 1.25/gallon so your fsc goes up as fuel prices due. So for a truck getting 7 mpg you would be getting around .24/mile. Lastly with the team, if your a team and run 6500 miles a week, with a good carier thats close to 7k/week gross, 500 lease/insurance/maintence escrow, 1250 for fuel using above formula, and your left 4k/week. Not bad. Just some of my thoughts. Im a expediter for life now, i can make that kind of money doing 3k miles/week teaming. I know a trainer that does on avg 7000-8000/week and gross 125,000/year but i never would want to drive that much.
