I read an interesting article in one of the trucking magazines that I feel is worth mentioning in the ongoing discussion on this forum about the possible effects of the new HOS rules. It had to do with the shippers and receivers, having no resposibility in lowering driver fatigue, nor do they have an economic stake or any liability, in your ability to schedule your time. They control how long you wait at the dock ,loading/unloading or supervising...or just waiting in line, and therefore under the new rules, you could be passed over for the next load, because you won´t have enough hours. All the fines for HOS rule violations will be levied on the drivers and carriers, and they could be substantial. I read that fines can range from $300 to $11,000, depending on the severity of the violation.
